Maybe not the best place to post this, but this is where most people are. It seems from previous Cardiff posts that many of you are in the DP area so hoping you might be able to help.
Last night I was a good samaritan and rescued a little tabby and white cat from the Penarth end of Cardiff Road right where DP starts (v v busy road for those of you who don't know the area and just nosing
) She was wandering in and out of the traffic and very disorientated. I thought she was blind at first but it seems her eyes are just very gungy. She's very old, very friendly but also unfortunately very dehydrated and weak. She was wearing a very tatty old yellow collar with little diamantes and a bell on it. It was quite loose on her so I think she may have lost a fair bit of weight recently. I did wonder if she was a farm cat as there's a farm near there (nobody there) but she surely wouldn't have a collar and bell if she was.
I knocked on a few doors but she didn't belong to anyone in the immediate area so I took her into my house and put her in the dog's cage with a blanket and some water. I phoned the RSPCA and arranged with them to take her to Valley vets in Whitchurch/Gabalfa. There isn't much wrong with her other than age and dehydration. She has been on a drip overnight and is doing ok this morning although she hasn't yet eaten. She will be moved to the RSPCA in Merthyr today where she will be kept for a week in the hope her owners come forward. I doubt very much that they will rehome her due to her age.
She is so friendly and has got to a good age that it is obvioulsy she was once much loved and cared for. I think she may have got disorientated and can't find her way home and I would hate for her to be pts without being reunited with her family. We can't have her as we have a very bouncy young dog who although wouldn't hurt her, would want her to play all the time.
We originally thought that she can't have come far as she's so weak she wouldn't have managed it, but as nobody there has owned up to her and we've never seen her before in the 7 years we've lived there, maybe she has come from further afield and got weaker and weaker as her journey went on.
So please Cardiff people spread the word amongst all your friends and colleagues to see if we can reunite this lovely little cat with her family. I am going to put some posters up in the area as well and knock on some doors slightly further away.
