I need some advice
I want to move in to the horse industry working as a groom ect.. To eventually progress to other areas...
I'm only 24 however I have a mortgage and a full time job in the police. ( mortgage not too much of a problem money wise ) I want to leave my job eventually and some how move in to horse world.
Can any one give me any ideas on how I can't get some experience working on yards or helping out on my days off and how I can gain experience qualifications ect, whilst working my full time job.
I have not worked on a yard before but have my own horse. And I love to be out side learning every day :)
Before any one says I am fully aware of the money being crap :) in the equine industry but I really want a job I enjoy and doing the Job I do has made me realise money is not everything :)
Hope people don't think I'm mad
Thanks in advance

If you can get to newmarket and do the 9week TRIC course at the British Racing School you can work your way up the industry with graded pay and your day times free from 1pm to 5pm! This is the only secure way to work in the horse industry with a guaranteed wage and you get NVQ recognised qualifications!

personally I wouldn't do it! I would stay in work and keep horses as a hobby! You'll soon get sick of them otherwise. Besides working in the police you get career progression and you can retire at 50 on full pension (unless that's going to change!?). It's only another 26 years!

This is true :)but in the police I get spat at punched and kicked and my pension is so expensive and I won't get any more out of it at the end :( lol. And at this rate wont be retiring till I'm 65 :) Oooh nothing is ever simple :) thank u for ur advice trouble 4125 :) I will look In to that :)

The British Racing school is brilliant! give them a ring and have a word. If you can go to the taster day (morning) they have once a month they will show you round and you get a look round a yard too!
I took my friend's little brother on saturday and he loved it! The school offers so many courses- all of them are fully funded (so far as I am aware) everything from the 9 week course to assistant trainers courses and jockey courses! It's brilliant!

In some job you can ask for a year's sabbatical, [in order to broaden your life skills], so ask about that, you might just feel a bit old for Newmarket where the lads [m & f] are mostly under 21, and one metre 60.
I'm not sure about the racing schools, I thought they took in lads from 17 to 19 approx.
What about dog handling, no spitting allowed!

Is there any chance you could work part time in the police and part time at a stable yard? That might give you the best of both worlds. You have my sympathy though, somehow it seems 'nicer' to be kicked by a horse than to be attacked by a bunch of inebriated thugs.
