Of course the reason the owners thought these were great photos to show might be because there were never any better ones, which does lead to wondering why (when it comes to the hackneyed old 'moment in time' argument) an elite rider at a world class competition would have so little influence over his horse's neck that he'd be unable to prevent the horse adopting this undesirable posture.

So PETA didn’t take the pics, they got hold of pics which had been taken by the horse’s connections who then posted the pics publicly?

This is getter madder.
yup they were very proud of them, and everyone was bullying/trolling for mentioning otherwise, it was staggering that they couldn;t' fathom that what stuff looked like really mattered right now. (UK owner breeder so did know what was going on)

In defence of this particular one, I believe the horse was found to have bitten itself which is why they are allowed to sub in a 4th rider - however I don't know for certain, it's just what I read. These things do happen too, whilst not ideal of course.

Yes, it was me that posted these in the CDJ thread.
Rolkur as a training method is banned, in what other sport can you do something at the Olympics that is banned and get a slap on the wrist and still allowed to compete?!?!?!?!
Anything that is unsavoury on any day of the comp in any arena, whip use, spur use, blood in mouth or on flanks, rolkur, horrid hands.. someone with the power to eliminate immediately should be supervising all rings, if we don't come down like a ton of bricks this will never stop happening! I would support that at every major show (although have no idea how we would fund it)

and Meg (the influencer one) posted a story tagging the rider and saying 'come on Team Brazil' stood next to him in a photo with it.

Genuine question (for the room not necessarily you ASBMO), as I haven't come across it before outside of seeing reports about it in dressage... How and why do horses end up biting themselves in the mouth? And is there something about high-level competition that makes it more likely?

I was watching the test live and the commentator said something like oh I’ve heard a clink of bits and he noticed the blood and discussed what could have happened…biting tongue etc.

No it is not just a dressage thing you would probably find as many horses who bite themselves at a fun ride.

Oh that's why it rang a bell. . .

He only pops up to promote his stallion(s), doesn’t contribute anything to the forum anyway.

It appears the rose tinted specs he has over his stallions appears to also filter into the training of his event horse. I’m gobsmacked it was him that blindly posted the photos!! I mean what an own goal.

It’s such a privilege and honour to have a homebred at the Olympics, and I’m in no way naive in the difficult dynamics involved in elite team sport for an owner, they often have far less say than they should have. But it’s given me a lot to think about too.

I think some with fleshier mouths, or who may be a bit more mouthy in general or may have rubbed their face in a double and it may have pinched - some are definitely more succeptible than others to it.
Dex has done it once trying to chew his reins as a baby and just caught the front of his lip messing about
