Whose horse has eaten something that as a foraging herbivore, ought to be off its diet list?

My pony has manged an attack on a cheeseburger, will scarf prawn crackers, and has been seen to eye bacon sarnies hungrily...

Your stories of carnivorous horses?

Does murdering owners for polo's count? I've had one that would bite through pockets to get at them

(he was 20+ when we got him so I don't think we were ever going to break the habit)!
Did have one that liked burgers - but they were dubious quality ones that were probably only 1% meat, she also loved mars bars (and hated polos - weirdo)

My horse will honestly eat anything you put in front of her face including kids sour sweets, chocolate, any veg and has once bitten a bit of sausage roll out of my hand :O I think she was just jelous that I was munching and she was not!

My horse just seems to trust me that anything in my hand is safe to eat! He wouldn't touch anything like that if it was on the floor or in his bucket but would quite happily steal it out of my hand!!

hmm in my experience riding school horses will eat anything!

You'd think they'd know better....

I remember the ones when I was a kid eating ham or tuna sarnies quite regularly. One used to drink coke straight from the can too, and they all loved the nasty weak lemon cordial that we used to be given by the YO in summer.

The ones I ride now aren't much better, they'll do anything for a twix, but will also go for strawberry lollies, burgers, chips, waffles, mini eggs, haribo etc etc etc

My mum has fond memories of the dray horse that lived near her childhood home being given a toffee by her dad who hadn't got anything more suitable but was too soft not to treat the horse. Daft bugger ate it and stuck his teeth together!

didn't stop him begging for more when he finally de stuck himself.........

My first horse that I had as a teenager once ate my ham sandwich!!!!

She was a section D cross, lived off thin air and would literally eat anything...she was particularly partial to the lickings in the pot of a curried pot noodle...

Also if u want to be really mean...sprinkle some rice crispies on the ground (TBF my friend who was going thru the teenage phase of eating dry cereal dropped them) anyway my mare was straight down to snaffle them up...but every time she got close she breathed out and they blew a bit further away, we were in histerics watching her getting so close....she wandered all of the yard for ages!

These are great!

Just remembered the time another livery was carring a coke bottle---pony grabbed it from under her arm by the neck, and upended it so it would have gone into his mouth---unfortunately, it was empty already!

Genie was taking a coke bottle out of another livery's pocket on Friday... she kept taking it off her and putting it back in, and G would promptly grab it again.

My friends horse has been known to steal sausages off the BBQ!

and she has to fight him for burgers at shows. The old Appy loved cheese and onion crisps, half coated digestives and Idris ginger beer. Her friend loved cherry coke. The current Appy will steal the bread from a burger or a hot dog and also goes for coffee with sugar in it if she gets a chance.

Bonnie will try anything, from tuna butties to salt and vinegar crisps. She likes earl grey tea and chicken and mushroom pasties.
And no matter how many times she takes an onion ring crisp off you, spits it out and curls her lip back... once shes finished expressing her dislike, she'll gladly take another one off you and do exactly the same.

Harvey isnt as easily pleased, though he does also like earl grey tea. Not so keen on chicken and mushroom pasties. He prefers pickled onion monster munch.

Winnie will look at you in disgust if you offer her anything that isnt sweet. She'll lierally mug you if she thinks you've got sweets or anything involving mollasses. Pregnant lady cravings i reckon!

Oh stilltrying, what a hoot!!!

My horse Sunny has special privileges round the yard - he is allowed to be a free range horse, eating the verges around the yard and generally getting in everyone's way on the drive. Trying to teach him to hold a £5 note in his teeth and go down to the local Tescos on a yard cream cake run!

Anyway, he is a disgusting, common-as-muck slob because he regularly mooches round to the chicken house to see if there's still some old stale bread left. If yes, he snurfles the chickens out of the way and hoovers up every crumb. You'd swear he was half starved!!!!!!!
