I have a couple of ponies to sell and have advertised intermittently. Of course, in today's climate, nothing much is moving.

But what I do find a bit upsetting are the replies asking the price and nothing much else. When I suggest they might actually like to come and see the pony and we'll talk about it, there is a deafening silence. I am concerned about the welfare of my horses and won't just sell to anyone. If I was convinced the purchaser could offer a good home, I would reduce the price substantially or discuss some other mutually suitable arrangement.

Are these people looking for "free to good home" or just interested in anything which might be going cheap? Or are they sussing out the value of their own horses? I don't really understand it as the costs of maintaining a horse are going to be far greater than the annual value of the one off purchase price (spread over a lifetime) and it will surely always pay in the long run to buy quality.
