Hi can anyone recommend a good reference book on how to start carriage/trap driving, as well as the basics, equipment etc, anything with details on training a pony for breaking to drive would be of interest?

I am not sure its something you can really learn from a book to be fair.

go on
www.britishdrivingsociety.co.uk
which is a wealth of information
but also,
look at their list of accredited instructors and find one in your area. they can teach you all you need to know.

Please please dont try and learn to drive or a break a pony to drive without the correct help.

sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick and you just wanted to read a bit about it but not actually take part in it

Sallie Walrond's classic book "Breaking a Horse to Harness". It's a really good book and I would highly recommend it. :)

I second this, she really is an excellent author. I got this book when I was vaguely interested in starting to drive and it inspired me to go out and have a few lessons. Very well written.

I agree about the you cant learn from a book. If you are looking to start driving perhaps book some lessons ?

I personally dont have any carriage driving books so cant help you by recommending one.

The Sally Walrond book is excellent and a very good place to start, followed by some lessons if you don't already drive yourself.
