Which vegetables and fruits are more suited to a laminitic pony, I read that traditional carrots and apples are far to high in sugars to give as a treat?
Is something like pumpkin more suited then or is it okay for treats?

What is okay to use for training?

Yes good idea but if you are using clicker for eg. just give one nut at a time not a handful. :D Keep the handfuls for a mega reward.

No fruit and veg, it's a horse not a chimp. Celery is ok if you want to treat.

Far too much sugar in fruit and veg for a horse that hasn't had laminitis yet, let alone one that has.

My lami pony is so used to her miserable no sugar or low sugar rations that she actually is fine with a handful of molasses free chaff as her treat. It's just a question of getting them used to that being the new normal. She never gets sugary fruit now and never will but seems to enjoy her treats just as much.

I try and see the fruit as poison for her and if you see it that way it isnt hard to stop giving it

:D that also made me laugh out loud

I guess no fruit or veg in the wild... maybe the first horses ate such things though

How about sugar free polos, not very natural I agree but I give my pony sugar free polos as a treat and he loves them.

I give my EMS boy Hilton Herbs Herballs, he had these whilst recovering, he recovered just fine I used to put a handful in his treat ball
