Not in the veiw of my little lad!! He has 2 or 3 in his feed one to get him in and one when he's turned out. And god forbid if I ever forget one of them!!!!!
There is more sugar in a medium sized carrot that in a whole scoop (made up) of speedi beet (or so say the manufacturers). I have to say I feed about 3 medium carrots per feed (I have cut down as I share a bag with three others) but I used to feed about 6 per feed. Carrots are mostly made up of fibrous material and water, and I would go so far as to suggest that the sugar content would have a very minimal effect on your horses temperment. My horse is 17.1hh, if he were a little shetland I would be more worried! I also give him approx 10/12 mint imperials or about 8 extra strong mints every day also. I read somewhere that horses teeth do not rot, but after speaking to an student EDT recently she told me they did. Hmmm.

I don't feed them to the Appy mare, as she goes bonkers on them! A doctor I know who specialised in human diet intolerances says that they have a very high carb content, I assume this is why my mare goes bats on them.
I feed 3 in each feed (2 feed per day). I didn't realise there was so much sugar in them! Doesn't send my boy loopy but may have to rethink the amount he gets
there is a lot of sugars in carrots so i would not feed a lot but if you need a horse to gain weight and does not get fizzed up easily i can not see a prob!
My two get a sack a week between them - each gets about 1 - 1 1/2 lbs a day in weight each split between two feeds. Not a problem for mine. However, they are on Simple Systems so don't get cereals or sugar in their feeds.
Carrot used to be considered feed stock before the war.
Yes they do contain more sugar than other veggies, but it is natural sugar rather than the stuff we get in packs so does not create excess energy associated with sugary foods.
They are very good for providing fibre, vit a and c, are a food that is antioxidant, and also a good source of Potassium.
Even my daft WB mare who was very sensistive to sugar was fine on them. I think people sometimes blame carrots when it is the grass, mix, molassed chaff they are feeding that are the source of the excess energy.
A vote for carrots - plus they are great when you are at the yard and have the munchies - my niece and I often grab a couple from the sack on Saturday afternoons.
Well the doctor at the Airedale allergy centre would disagree with you on both counts, he recomends them as a replacement for the other carbs that people with food intolerances cannot eat.
