Carrying on from'clever horses'-what has yours done that has amazed u?

Reading the post below about clever Bruce who helped the pony with his leg stuck in his belly straps ............ has your horse ever done anything that has completely amazed you, like they are almost human and completely understand a situation???

My 26 yr golden oldie has currently been taken out of his normal paddock to go out in a small paddock as a buddie to a horse whose meant to be on quiet turnout after 14 weeks box rest and the other day his buddie escaped (somehow!) to charge up and down the runway that joins all the fields. He followed and managed to get him boxed in at one end and stood right across the path so he couldn't charge around anymore !!!

Its almost as if he understood that he shouldn't be doing it as he was on strict orders from the vet so stood in the way to stop him till we could catch him!!! Aaargh bless!

My horses are pretty daft, but a few years ago my old mare was involved in a horsebox accident. It was horrible, the floor gave way, she was ok but her buddy went through the floor and broke all four legs. They had to have it shot in the waggon, with my mare still in as she was at the other side. She walked straight out of that box having just watched her stable mate being shot, and straight back into another box.

My little TB mare can open the gate from the field to the yard (she only does it when the weather is really bad and I'm late though!)

A horse I used to have used to wait for me to get there in the mornings and pee in a bucket!

I mean that is an awful story - but what a brave little mare! Poor thing to watch her stable mate die and poor poor horsey who died like that, I feel really sad now!

my horse thomas can undo all stable doors, as well as opening a small gate onto out paddock which has a really fierce spring on that swings it shut away from him, but he managed to undo it, so we then put a dog lead clip through a loop on the ctach, but he has now worked out how to undo that too!
 
Our highland sandy once saved willies life !!! It was the most scary and amazing thing to watch!

About 5yrs ago when Willies epilepsy was really bad he dropped to the ground in the field in front of us and had big fit the amazing thing was sandy came straight over and took ahold of willies ear with his teeth and keep ed willies head up, then after the fit willie got up and sandy let him lean on him and walked round the field with willie until his heart rate came down.

This is the reason i will never sell sandy

My 17 hand warmblood was very clever once, my 16.2 for no apparent reason started attacking an elderly 14 hand pony & was hell bent on killing it (poor pony later ended up on the operating table which was an interesting insurance claim!). Forever saw what Beemer was doing to the poor old pony and went & over to protect the old chap, kicking Beemer until he left the old pony alone & probably saved the pony's life.
 
Yes it was a pretty sad day, they had all been out hunting together back when my Dad had her, he still says he has never heard such a painful scream from anything, let alone a horse, and Bertha just loaded straight back up after it all, she has never been a problem for all the years we have had her, it will be sad day when she goes

My coloured gelding who I used to own took a beating from the rest of the herd trying to save my spotty pony after some well meaning person decided that although they were new to the yard they should be in with the others not getting to know each other over the fence - que the herd chasing and bullying little pony over a river and through a barb wire fence (not in our yard) but they had chased him out so Oliver stood in front of the tangled pony and took a beating so the others couldnt get to him brave boy!
 
none of mine have ever done anything amazing, but a friend had a horse who would let himself out of his stable (undoing 2 clipropes as well as the sliding bolt) and then let out his friends too, leaving the horses he didn't like in their stables! Now, that's pretty smart.
Some of these stories of horses protecting others are just amazing. Aww.
 
Tilly was a 7 week old foal when her mum had to be PTS. My Icelandic gelding adopted her and acted as surrogate mum - sharing a stable with her and looking after her in the field. He was absolutely brilliant and taught her that she was a horse not a human. He even used to bring her over to the fence for her feeds when he saw me coming with her milk. She is now 4 and she is still very fond of him. (Icelandic is the grey and she is the coloured in my signature)
 
Rosiie Posiie - That is terrible and what a star of a horse your mare is.

D has never done anything heroic(sp?) but whilst on an instructional hack with my instructor he managed to cough, fart and buck at the same time all whilst cantering

D is kept in a field with 1 mare, 1 filly and a Shettie gelding and we have noticed that he will be the one who stands guard over them all whilst they're all led flat out snoring. He waits until they are all up until he has a kip but by then they're all starving and no-one guards him
