How does everyone carry all their equipment to shows etc? I can't afford a Tack Pack at the moment and I am fed up with filling up the boot of my car with grooming kits, tack, etc and then unpacking it all at the end of the day (by which time it has usually spread itself all over the car), and was wondering whether anyone has found a cheap and effective answer to the problem.

Also, could someone please tell me how the Tack Packs are firmly secured to the trailer?

We tie a bungie from the loop on the frame at the front, round the tack pack and onto the other loop. We put an old feed bag stuffed with a little hay behind the tack pack to cushion it and stop it bumping/moving in transit (and stop the inside of the trailer being damaged)

For now I'd put a large lidless plastic box of the type you might store under your bed in the back of your car to put all your tack, grooming bits and pieces, boots, gloves, BP, hat etc in, then it'll contain them in one place and will be two things only to lift out. Saddle obviously will not fit the box!

I had thought it was more technical than that! Do you find tackpacks useful? I have heard a few people complain that they took up too much room?
Will have to start saving up my pennies for one. Your idea of a big plastic box is a good one although I would like to free up the car.

My tack pack is just wheeled in and positioned in the nose cone and left. It doesn't move. If I am travelling alone it usually takes most of the tack, boots etc but if I have two horses then it only takes the tack and the rest of everything is in the car

Saw some on e-bay the other day, that were not too expensive so may be worth looking there.

i travel my mare without partitions so have made a few things up to help with storage:

i have had rug racks made for my trailer - basically bars that hook into the partition rings on the inside of the trailer and run front to back about an inch out - when i take her boots off i hang them striaght on there - i also keep a LW rain sheet hanging on one side too so i alwyas have one incase the weather turns...its difficult to describe how they look lol! but i can gt piccies if you want :)

and a first aid kit in a cloth bag that stays in the trailer hanging from the top front hooks... it's secured so it cant move and stays in there the whole time so i never forget a 1st aid kit...

inside i clip my poop scoop and water bowser thingy together at the front of the trailer...

in the truck boot i have a lidded plastic box with all grooming/polishing/stud etc kit in

my saddle is kept on a saddlemate and boots/bridles etc are kept inside it - fabulous thing for keeping everything tidy ;)

when i get there i clip a 3 pronged bridle hook to a front trailer hook (karabinas ;))and hang my bridles etc from that to keep everything tidy

i also then take my lidded box into the trailer and put it about at the jockey door - she's used to this and it's never worried her - i'd not leave it in trailer with her but fine as i groom/put boots on etc

When I had a tack pack I used a bungie like Dubsie to secure it to the front inside of the trailer. It was a novelty at first but as it didnt hold two saddles & bridles together with grooming kit etc so stopped using. It was just gathering dust so I sold it locally for what I paid for it.

I now use a box on wheels from B&Q or the likes and put everything in that and pop the saddles over the back of the back seat. Luckily I use the OH's LW Pajero to tow so have plenty of room, although for a ODE it does fill up quickly.

I also have a tack trolley which I bought from Robinsons £36, which I use with a bungie again and put it in the empty side of the trailer. Its great if you dont have too much stuff (it will hold a saddle, bridle and has a little basket underneath for boots etc) but sometimes its just easier to chuck everything in the back of the 4WD.

Thanks Posie Honey and Liesel - these are exactly the crafty tips I was looking for! I wasn't sure whether I could risk putting things in the trailer with the horse, but think I will now look for a canny way of strapping in the water and poop scoop etc. and using the space in the empty side. I wonder if I could persuade my imaginative dad to come up with something....Hmm!

if i remember i'll take piccies for you tonight ;)

bungie ropes are great - and i got the same smithy who made my rug rasks to put extra loops on lower down so that i can use a bungie through the water bowser handles and round my (short handled ;)) poop scoop - they are the same height so secure well together ;)

ooh - the 3 pronged bridle hook i use - i store it behind the hay net so she can't injure herself whilst we;re travelling - then hook it the other side when we get there

i have actually also ordered a bridle bag that i can hang at the front of the trailer too whist travelling - again i'll secure it down with bungie clips....

and yes - there is still room for nag after all this lol!! ;)
