i know there are lots of posts about cars for dogs, but i was wondering if any one has or can suggest a car (not van) that would be suitable to 3 dogs - 2 big and 1 little. would quite like cage so they can be separated, but would also like to keep the seats in the back!

Thanks :)

I'm interested in replies to this, I need to ditch my big range rover vogue in favour of something more economical, I need space for my four dogs.
I have been looking at estate cars, favourite at the moment is an a4 estate (but I am a bit of a snob )

I have 3 dogs and use a Vauxall Zafira. I do have them in the back together though, with a dog guard and a gate at the back. They are a lab, and 2 collie x's.

I have a Skoda Fabia estate, its a great car (as long as you can get past the badge), plenty of room for 2 GSDs in the back. Friend has a bigger Octavia and that has loads of space. I am sure you could get cages to fit either, I have a wire inner door for mine and it was supplied ex stock.

Do people still have that attitude? They're just Audis with a different badge, top of the reliability index, what's not to love? :D

When I can afford a new (well, new to me!) car, and assuming that I may have two large dogs by then, I'll be looking to buy either an Octavia estate or a Honda CR-V. We have a standard Octavia with a fitted dog guard and could easily fit two in that, though haven't tried a cage in it.

I have a Ford Explorer which has a huge space in the back. Easily fittd 2 rotts and a ridgey (although she preferred the back seat)!! Don't think they are available here now though. The only 4x4 I have found that equals it spacewise is the Toyota Amazon. Pricey though.

Err how did that happen??

I've met a few yes, usually male! Son was very rude when i first got the Fabia, I gave him the alternative of walking if he didn't want to be seen in it and he soon shut up.:D

Has son not realised that the Fabia VRS is the up-and-coming hot hatch of choice for teenage boys? The insurers haven't cottoned on yet and it costs the same to insure as an ancient old Fiesta but is double the BHP. :p

I've got an Octavia estate. Fantastic car and has loads of room for dogs etc. We got 2 dogs, pushchair, travel cot and clothes for 2 adults and a baby for 2 weeks in it without being cramped :) Plus it does about 60mpg and is in the cheap tax band

Don't mention car insurance, currently trying to get quotes on a Land Rover he is doing up, 20 years old, can just about do 50 mph down hill with a good following wind, quotes around £3500

That's ridiculous, that's more than my first car cost!

The insurance in my first year was exactly double the cost of my car - £400 Nissan Micra, £800 insurance with a £500 excess... hmm, I'm really gonna claim on that. :p

MM, isn't it rubbish for boys! OH paid £1700 in his first year for a 1.0l Micra, I'm not sure how much more of a low-risk car you can get. Land Rovers do tend to blow up a lot. :D

Its nearly 4 times what he paid for the Landy! Not that I am condoning it but its really no wonder some of these young lads don't bother with insurance is it?:(

It's madness:( I know some young lads are mad, but my sister BF is one of the safest drivers I know, yet was still hit for a huge insurance bill when he first passed his test.

I got my first years insurance down a bit by going to the same company my mum used and setting up a 'linked policy', so that might be an avenue worth exploring if you haven't done so already.

I've just gone from a Ford Galaxy to a Ford Mondeo estate, got a dog guard and tailgate guard and shed loads of room. I've got 3 JRTs but mum had the Mondeo before me (we swapped) and she got 4 or 5 Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas in the boot with plenty of room.

They're cheap to run and insure too

No usefull info really.... just dont ever get a Fiat 500 and think 'oh... they will fit in somewhere' Because they dont.

Small terriers maybe.... a stiff Ridgy... no chance.

Dads Rangey is excellent, but so expensive to run! I think OH is looking at getting an estate next so we can fit more dogs in it lol. He has a C2 - they are even worse than the 500.

My dad had a VW Passat estate for years - I used to nick it everytime I moved :o Drives really easily and made me feel really safe too. I'd imagine it's pretty much the same as the Skoda Whatdjamacallit estate, but the Skoda may be better value for money? I've heard good things about the Mondeo estate too mind you.

I'm supposed to be looking for a new car (wrote mine off a few weeks back) but I keep getting distracted... someone on my street has just bought a VW campervan and it's loooovely :o :o

A Range Rover - if you can live with the fuel cost
A Mercedes E Class estate

I sold my RR and will soon be purchasing a Mercedes estate as the load space is big, plus a diesel engine is fairly nippy and economical. OR I may buy another RR but opt for LPG or chipped diesel but again, never going to fantastic on fuel, but the boot space is to die for! I do miss it I'm poodling aroiund in a golf at the moment. I feel so small! :D
