Cartophen? Anyone's horses on it? Success stores for spavin?

My 16 year old cob has just been diagnosed with bone spavin on his left hind. He is about 3/10 lame. The vet gave him an injection of Cartrophen, of which he will have another 3 injections at weekly intervals and will be rested in the field for the time being. I just wandered if anyone has a horse on Cartrophen and what the outcome was? My vet explained it is not licensed for use in horses in the UK but has been successful in the cases it has been used. I'd like to hear anyone's experiences of it. Thanks

We put our old boy on it 3 years ago for arthritis. He seemed to do quite well on it. Like you, we had weekly injections for 4 weeks and had it 2 years on the trot, but there were no 'hallelujah' moments, he just seemed to be more comfortable in himself.

My 16 y.o. mare has been diagnosed with spavins in her hocks and is not responding to bute or the newer Suxibuzone so am thinking maybe I will have to try something like Cartrophen.

My vet swears by it, my horse has "degenerated cartilage" between her deep digital flexor tendon and her pedal bone. She had the three week/ four injection course of cartrophen in the hope that this will improve the state of the cartilage and stop adhesions forming. I have no idea as yet if it has worked (she has until June off) but if she comes back sound in June it will have been well worth the money "just in case" it actually helped.
I'll let you know in June what I think of it! But yes, my vet thinks it is very effective stuff.

My horse is on it post-op.

In fact i did her cartrophen injection this morning. She has to have it weekly for 4 weeks then monthly for 4 months.

My horses cartledge was damaged serverly in an incident hooning around the field and now needs 3 months box rest ( cant even be walked out ) then 3 months turned away and we are going to attempt to bring her back to work in 6 months so i cant tell if its helping but my circumstances are different to yours.

I know it very expensive!!! One 10ml bottle costs about £75.00 ish according my my bill that i sentoff to the insurance company.
