Im just about to start a course of Cartrophen injections for my old boy (25yo). Vet coming tomorrow
It's kind of a last thing to try atm as he suffered some serious muscular damage begining of December (which left him walking 1/4's in, we very nearly had to PTS), he's also suffering Arthritis.

He picked up very well from the accident amazingly & was doing brilliantly, was walking very straight until last week when he had a mad 5 mins.
He's now back to 1/4's in & not really improved over the last few days at all

.
However he can walk, trot, canter & get down to roll & back up again without problems. But he isnt straight so it's not good.

He's also looks fab shinny healthy coat, excellent weight, eating & drinking well & very very bright which is why where not doing PTS immediately.

Ive had him 21 years so im trying to my best by him, obviously i will do right by him when the time comes no matter how devistated i am.

Just wondering if anyone has has any succes with these injections.

Sorry no experience with horses, but my dog has regular Cartrophen injections and he responds really well although they wear off within a month at the moment.

I believe it can do wonders for some and not for others. Good luck hope your boy is one of the responders.

Thank you Clarew22, glad it works for your dog.

Im not getting my hopes up with the injections, but i would forever regret it if i didnt try them. I have a very well respected Vet & i know he always gives me his honest opinion, the Vet really wants to give them a try so im happy to try.

Yes, they work very very well, my horse has SI damage, and they keep him sound for 12 months.

However, because he has them yearly, insurance wont pay out, so I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative, at £60 a shot, plus vet call out, I cant afford to keep doing it.

Thank you, yes they arnt cheep. Hope they keep working for your horse Boss&belle.

My Vet said if they help my lad he may need every 6 months, im willing to do this if they do help.

they work great for my mare with arthritic chnages in both hocks she has them monthly get them from viovets on prescription for £43
