Cartrophen - long term use

Hi

Has anyone had any experiences of using Cartrophen over a long period of time ?

Did there come a point when it was no longer effective ?

My horse has been on monthly injections, since late 2012, for advanced arthritis. He is currently sound so I am happy to continue with them, but I am concerned that a some point they will no longer be enough to keep him comfortable.

He is currently on no other mediation
 
I'm also interested in the replies to this.

Billy- any reason for monthly injections and not the usual 4 x weekly injections, repeating when needed, hopefully 6-12 months

Apologies I didn't explain that we started with 4 injections at weekly intervals before moving to the monthly injections.

The reason for monthly injections is that the arthritis is so advanced and in a not great place (knee). Based on the x-ray changes this horse really should not be sound, so the vet would be reluntant for me to move to a less frequent treatment. Before starting with the Cartrophen he was 3-4/10ths lame.
