Have a giaint breed who is approaching 11, he is getting a bit doddery behind. He did something silly on Tuesday evening where by he shot out barking at something, pulled his back a bit but this has caused him to be very footy behind. He is is improving all the time and is able to get himself up, go to the toilet all is functioning and controlled fine there.

I have been given him some anti inflams which has sorted out the back, legs are still a bit week behind particularly on the left hind round the knee/hock joint, this is a bit sore where he has tweaked it, however this is improving and there is no swelling or heat. Nothing wrong what so ever with his front end or mind and prior to him being a bit over exuberant he was taking himself up a set of stairs (16 steps, don't ask, he is very determined), and coming back down too also very happy getting in and out of car and being driven around. (Doesnt do walks, no need to because of where we are, but likes going out and shouting at people from the car, esp cyclists, he is a bit warped!)

I have spoken to a sensible and pratical vet about Cartrophen jabs and will discuss suppliments when she come out to me. The rest of his system I can support without a problem, I just wanted to know if anyone out there has tried these jabs and how they have got on esp with a giant breed and what, if any supps they have used.

My GSD had cartrophen jabs for about 2 years, she had spondylosis which caused her a lot of discomfort and she used to have painful flare ups which required tramadol tablets to help her. The jabs made a real difference, all the time she was on them she never had another painful episode. I would certainly use it again for an older dog. The only supplement she had was Vitapet RA formula, the double strength one.
