Case of the disappearing bridleways in Bucks/Ashley Green..

Years ago i used to ride round the bridlepaths at Hawridge near Ashley Green but when i looked on a map today they seem to have disappeared!

Is anyone in this area and can solve this? Surely we didnt just ride on footpaths back then?

Your first port of call would be to check the definitive map of the area which is held at County Hall and this will show the recorded status of each public right of way in the county.

If it is only recorded as a public footpath on the definitive map then all is not lost as if it can be proved that it was ridden for an unbrocken period of 20 years or more then a modification order can be applied for to have it's status changed to a bridleway. This will mean that horse riders will be able to continue to use it in the future.
