Hi,

My puppy, Zak (border collie blue merle) is 10 months old and Ive booked him in to be castrated next thursday but I absolutely terrified!! Im so scared that he's not going to come round or something is going to go wrong.
Hes perfectly healthy but I think im just being really over protective, even when the vet micro chipped him i was so upset because the vet said for me to wait outside and Zak was so scared the vet had to drag him away from me.
Has anyone had they dog cut? If so how were they afterwards? I booked four days off work to spend with him to make sure he'll be ok. Im also worried he might open his wound as he is completely hyper jumping about.
Help please!!

I have had hundreds done of my own/rescues and seen hundreds done at work, it's a quick op, so he won't be under very long, and he will be right as rain, as soon as the same night/next morning, if u are worried about him licking at the op site, ask for a buster collar, lol, re the 4 days off, u really are a worried mammy

thank u so much, my partner thinks im crazy (ok i know i am!!) lol
but he means the world to me and I love him to bits.
Thanks for making me feel better, the biggest worry is not to worry when im dropping him off cos I dont want him to pick up on my stress!!
I have to drop him off at nine and wont be able to call until 12, going to have to get ponio out the field to keep me occupied!! the vet was laughing at me cos I was asking if i could stay there all day in the waiting room, the answer was no go home!! lol good job they know me so well so know how to put up with me!!

Oooh I was offered the friday but decided on the thursday. (only so i could take an extra day at home to look after him!!) Im mad!!
Im sure everything will be ok though!!
Im just an over stressing owner!! lol
What dog have you got?

Ok thanks for the advice I'll get some today for him, so its ready for him.
They told me to take him for a long walk before bringing him in but in the mornings I normally only walk him for 20-25 mins. Im worried if I walk him too far he'll be tired.
what do you think? x

I had my pointer done the week before christmas, he was 16 months old at the time.

He was done at 9am and i had to go collect him at 11-30 as he was howling the surgery down ( I am a vet nurse), got him in the door and the first thing he did was mount the lab!!! All my guilt disappeared after that. You wouldn't have known he'd had anything done. He was a nightmare to rest afterwards and still bombed around the field and garden. He had no swelling or bruising at all.

Hope this puts your mind at ease x
