Kind of as in title! Yearling colt is being gelded at 9am on Tuesday. Vet planning to do standing castration. She said either really deep straw bed or out in the field. I assume as it will be raining we will do it indoors. Then can he go out? It’s supposed to be raining all week. Does that matter?

I will obviously follow vet advice, but if he cannot go out after it would be really helpful to know now so we buy enough haylage etc this weekend.

So long as it's a clean, mud-free paddock out is far, far preferable. The rain doesn’t matter!

I have never had one done standing but in the now distant past when I regularly had colts gelded we had them done on the floor out in their paddock and they stayed there afterwards. Even my 14yr old stallion was done the same way. Only one that ever had a problem was a 2yr old with a retained testicle and it took a lot of fishing to find that with him upside down. Very bruised and swollen afterwards but recovered fine.
