My beautiful 3 year old colt went for a routine closed castration under GA, his small intestine apparently got stuck in the inguinal canal causing colic from which he couldn't be saved. Has anyone else ever heard of such a thing? I feel totally numb and let down by the vets!!

Oh what a terrible and sad thing to happen! Poor you :(

A 2yr old colt on our yard had a standing castration under sedation today, and the vets said to the owner that if he sees 'anything hanging from the wound' that it would be intestine and to call their emergency line... so I can only guess it does happen??

So sorry for your loss.

What a dreadful thing to happen, you must be in shock, I really feel for you. I've not heard of this happening, I did have a pony who, the day after surgery, had some tissue hanging from the wound but this turned out to be omentum or abdominal fat so not too serious at all. Did the vets explain to you in detail what had happened and why? I would certainly want to talk to them in depth, if not today, over the next few days, it might help put your mind at rest.

Once again, I am so sorry for your loss.
