I’ll take that down if it’s offensive to anyone.
a lot of the articles are about neutering before puberty and that isn’t what most of us on here would do,. It seems that in America they spey and neuter at very young ages so surely the figures will include all of those as well. I have had mainly bitches and all we’re done at over 2 years, none had any problems and all lives long active lives. I had my terrier done at a year , but he is tiny so hopefully he was mature enough , I was fed up with him humping everything so did it before I would have liked . If my lurcher shows no signs of humping or straying I may keep him entire till he is 2, but I doubt that will happen ..

I don’t understand neutering so young, I’m sure it can’t be good for the animal. Testosterone encourages the growth plates to close so presumably the dog doesn’t become too lanky/grow too quickly which is really key in especially giant breeds. Seems counter-productive.
Of course it isn’t, it’s just anatomy! There was an owner on a springer group that used to persistently post pictures of his dog’s balls. He was banned after circling the balls, he went a bit far, we weren’t blind!Goose likes to sleep upside down so we regularly get an eyeful.
But really who doesn’t want this as their view when sitting on the sofa![]()
Do you mean you do t let them cock their legs to pee at all?In this house they learn early on that testicles are a privilege not a right.
Most of mine have kept their conkers. I had two dog as they were pains. They stayed pains but did stop leg cocking.
My veteran boy is entire. As is my youngest - he’ll probably stay that way too as is fairly easy. Needs reminding I don’t tolerate leg cocking constantly, but we shall get there. He’s only 18 months so I may change my mind later on.
I hoped so.I just imagined that Luke meant in the house/on things like bins/garden furniture/ornaments etc? I don't have that either.
Do you mean you do t let them cock their legs to pee at all?. That must be a nightmare to police!
Yes they do and many of the risks are the same, the thing is a entire dog os much easier to keep than an entire stallion.Anyone with a gelding has had the same bits of their horse chopped off.......
Before Christmas we fostered an entire dog that we know has had a litter of puppies, and possibly spent most of his life in kennels. When our bitch was in season, it was a nightmare, he howled all night, completely obsessed with her. I ended up with him sleeping on my bed, tied to the headboard. The scent marking and disruption, was emotion draining. I took him to the vets, chemical castration hormone implant £150, and some doggy Valium, two days later completely settled. When I went in the vets I warned him, I may cry, I think he would have done anything to get rid of me.
We live on a small farm, and I wanted a quick result and not have the worry of an infected wound because of the mud. My other dog was castrated at 18 months, and I can see no change in him, but he is by nature an outgoing confident dog and I didn't want my now older bitch spayed.
The foster dog is now wants a long term sofa to cuddle up on, if you want a very smart cute looking small dog, that is not afraid of cows, or ponies, contact me if your fairly local.
Where are you honetpot?
That must’ve been horrific. But he knew the game having sired a litter.
Still leaning toward leaving well alone but it all depends on whether he works it out or not!
This and I can’t be flaffing with pissing contests between them either. Ones peed, then the other pees on top and then the other - although my bitch is the worst for doing this over the boys as opposed to the other way round ironically. The boys learn early on it’s a no. Go somewhere else and move on with your life.I just imagined that Luke meant in the house/on things like bins/garden furniture/ornaments etc? I don't have that either.
Only in my novice opinion (of one dog). They apparently get over the whole testosterone thing by two years old, so I’d hang on until then and then decide. Scout will play rough but my playful two bitches flatten him(in play) so he is actually more careful than them.I've just booked my Lab in for castration next week. Now i'm wondering if it's such a good idea. He does wee a lot and is quite rough with my bitch but not humpy at all since she's been spayed. He's 20 months old and a bit of an escape artist although mainly after rabbits but I think we've finally secured all of the fence line. I always thought it was the done thing if they weren't used for breeding. He's a very happy confident chap albeit a bit of a dickhead lol

I have 3 boys unfortunately I had to have the oldest 7years castrated a few weeks ago because he presented with a hernia caused by an enlarged prostrate, castration to shrink the prostate was done and surgery to repair the hernia, hopefully castration won't change him and he's recovering well.
