Sorry - I know it's not about horses but I need help!

I have two seven (ish) year old cats, one is a good weight but the other is turning into Garfield

They can go in and out as they please day or night and currently feed senior dry food (First Class I think) adlib and when I feed the dogs they get some wet food. The one that is a good weight is boss so she normally has the wet food first but I have no idea who eats what otherwise.

How can I put fatty on a diet without her sister losing weight

Something tasty but not fattening for getting this far

I would cut out the meat. The dry food is a complete balanced diet so by giving the overweight one meat you are providing far too many calories. Is there any way you can put her in a separate room at meal times and perhaps give her a little tuna or chicken if you want to give her something that is not so fattening.

Perhaps dont feed them adlib, feed them both a set amount and in separate rooms so you know how much each one gets. Try a morning and evening meal so they get into a routine and then you can work out who eats more. If her sister loses weight you can give her more then the other wont know?

My cat gets a small handfull of Hills dry mornign and night and nothing else. He would love more but he doesnt need it he isnt underweight. He has a timer feed system so its set times every day.

Thanks, thing is I just don't know where feed them as I only have a teeny tiny house and too many animals!! They eat from the same bowl in the same place where greedy labbies can't help themselves. I think I'm going to have to have a serious think coz Garfield is not a good look! Shame I can't put her on a tread mill

Do feed them separately - I have many cats, in a small house, and manage very well.

Science plan is an excellent feed and the 'Light' biscuits can be fed to both cats. One should maintain weight, the other fat one should loose it.

Stop feeding them adlib - give them a portion of meat in the morning, with their biscuits. And as soon as they move away from the food remove what ever is left. And do the same in the evening.

Ditto - with the proviso that if it's always your aspiring Garfield who is last away from the bowl take it away as soon as the other one has finished eating.

Yes you can put them a treadmill. I saw a tv program a couple of years ago and they put their dog on a treadmill. but my old cats at home were the same, but they and my dogs were feed at certain times. My tom cat thought he should be fed more and use to duff up the dogs trying to get their food, so fed in seperate rooms.

I have two cats one is greedier than the other but they get half a pouch morning and evening each and a small amount of dry biscuit twice a day and thats it. One of my cats will cry and cry if I try to only give her dry food and quite honestly Im not surprised animals enjoy different flavours and textures like we do so personally unless for medical reasons I prefer to give a mixture of both. Both have lost weight by going from ad-lib to controlled portions even with wet food so it can be done.

Hope you soon have happy slim kitties
