Our cat has suddenly started chasing his tail. He would do it occasionally but in the last couple of days it's escalated to 4/5 times a day where he'll have a mad fit chasing it. It seems to be either when he's playing or if he's anticipating something to happen ie being fed.

When he catches it he'll just lick it and isn't actually biting it and damaging it.

I'm going to take him to see vet tomorrow but I think it's prob behavioural related.

He's an only cat, is indoors but has lots of stimulation. I've just plugged a feliway diffuser in for him.

Does anyone elses cat chase their tail?

Ours does it on the odd occasion she's having a mad, hunt anything that moves fit if she's swishing it anyway & sees it out of the corner of her eye. Worth checking for fleas, can still get them as a house cat.

Our cat does this from time to time - having had cats for a while now I think you will find if there is nothing wrong - ie fleas, sores, etc then he is probably just playing - especially if he is kept on his own. We call ours 'having a funny five' he chases his tail for a minute then hares off around the house then comes back sits down and gives himself a good wash!!

One of mine does this, but she will also 'stalk' her own tail and hiss at it when she catches it! She is a bit of a psychocat though :) we've had 12 years since she was a kitten and she's always done it

My little twit, erm sorry spotty cat, does this.

I have to admit that when I clicked on this thread I thought that your cat was playing with your horse's tail - which mine also does. So you have a horse slowy moving accross the field as he/she grazes, chased by a cat who gets very excited and leaps about everytime the horse swats a fly.

He's an only cat, is indoors but has lots of stimulation.

Brown cat was so much happier once he had a friend. Might be worth a thought? They love play fighting and will spend hours pootling about together.

Thank you, although the brown one is really my sister's but she can't have him in her rented house, infact I also have two more of hers (siamese and B&W monster) :p.
