Yes I know this is AAD, but I am having problems with Rox and cats.

Where we live we very rarely see cat's but when she does she likes to try and have a sniff and will then happily ignore them. We are staying at my parents at the moment whilst hubby is away with work so I don't have to commute to work. But on Thursday my dad walked her in the evening for me and apparantly Rox was her usual sniffy self around gates when a cat from nowhere came out and attacked her. She has a very scratches on top of head and her face, nothing serious but I have bathed them just to be sure.

Today I walked her and again she has been attacked by a different cat that proceeded to follow us for approx 500 metres and continue trying to attack her! On the way back I had no choice but go past this garden again but crossed the road before we got to it so as not provoke the cat but to no joy it's run across the road for round 2!

What can I do? Rox is so gentle she wont snap or growl back but I'm obviously concerned now that cat's are going to keep going for her :(

Sorry this has turned into a ramble, and I can honestly say this is not a wind up. I wish it was but it isn't :(

im sorry i know this is serious but i couldnt help but smile a little when i read your post, you sure have some gangsta fierce doggy hating moggies around your way!

if its really inconvenient to avoid them and you have to pass where this dog mugging feline lives on a regular basis i think you're going to have to be pro active and scare it off yourself. Not sure what else you CAN do tbh.

can you not growl and shout at it and make to kick it ?(please dont actually do that tho!)
But you know what i mean, make yourself something to be afraid of so the cat is more scared of you.
failing that, carry a small spray bottle full of water if you think you're going to meet it when you're out and give it a good soaking. Im sure it will decide its more hassle than its worth to pursue you looking to fight your dog soon enough :)

Oo I know what you mean, I can laugh about it now but still!

I would try and avoid the cats but they were opposite ends of the village so had tried that! I had thought of a water bottle to soak any ninja cats that appear. I'll also try growling, just honestly didn't think about it as was so shocked that the cat started to follow and continue trying to attack poor Rox!

Our own cat used to come with walks and go ahead, hide on bushes and ambush the poor dog, she developed a nervous twitch when passing any cover I swear! Years later I had a similar problem with a local cat that used to stalk my rather nervous rescue dog and beat her up on a regular basis. I got a water pistol with a decent range so that I could aim at the cat and miss my poor dog. After 2-3 soakings the cat decided we were best ignored and no doubt found himself a new victim!

The village of the killer cats!!!
It's not funny though, the gsd down from us was just a baby and had only been out twice when was attacked by 2 siamese cats. They sort of crept up on him and then one went to his back and the other to his head. He was all scratched and was really traumatised.
I will bring my cara (dobe in sig) for a walk with you she is the sweetest most gentle dog until a cat comes on the scene then she turns into the tasmanian devil! Even the streets dog hating moggy runs when it see her coming lol.
I would get a super soaker thing and let them have it, never mind a wee water pistol :D

Thanks everyone! I'm glad everyone can see the sort of funny side to it but also realises I'm being serious! Think it just frustrates me that if it were the other way round I'd be in serious trouble if rox caused any harm! Until I can locate a water pistol I have an old window cleaning bottle clean that I've soaked and stuck in the dishwash to use as a deterrent. I do ocassionally have problems walking rox with the pram so don't need her deciding that walks are scary :-(
