i have been reluctantly keeping my back door shut because there are so many cats in the neighbour hood and some just live in our house! they eat all our cats food, pee everywhere, go all over our work surfaces and break things in many rooms, upstairs and down. we have a catflap for our own cat but some of the other cats are now coming in through it. our dog allows them as well as our cat. useless pair

in desperation i am wondering about the catflaps that can only open with the tag operation from the collar of your own cat.

does anybody have any experience of these? they are expensive

cheers

sorry, haven't got any first hand experience with this- but thought it was worth mentioning that if you don't like the idea of your cat wearing a collar and/or tags - you can get a micro-chip controlled cat flap.

I have the Sureflap cat flaps which work on the microchip in the neck. Absolutely brilliant but get the larger one, advertised as dog size but really the same size as a normal cat flap. They do cost a lot more than magnetic flaps but you can set it to lock and unlock morning and evening so if you have to go out and the cats are still outside once they are in they are in so to speak.

mine wear magnetic ones, its so funny in the house when they come in with strange things attached to them. The funniest is hubby had some tin tuna and put it down for dog to lick , cat went over later and came back into the lounge with the tin attached lmfao

We had the magnet one for years as my neighbour has a gazillion cats and they kept coming in and sleeping on our chairs. We didn't mind too much, but our cats were horrified! That was fine but the magnets are quite bulky (or they were for that flap) and when we got a second cat we never got around to finding the spare magnets so just taped the magnetic bit down so they could come and go without them. Then our neighbour's cats figured out they could get in again so we finally replaced it with one of the microchip ones. It is FAB!! Really recommend it!
