My cat is 18 years old. She has a tumor on her lip which vet has looked and said needs taking off but obviously due to her age anathestic not a good idea. Does not stop her eating but gets sore and scabs over, scab then comes off, and so on. She is also now a bit senile and now does not always make it to her litter trays. She basically eats sleeps and poos bless her (she does not want to go out). I think that the time has come to say goodbye before she gets worse but I feel so guilty. Have booked vet to come to house on Thursday (she gets stressed going to vet so will have her pts at home, but should I really be giving her more time?

Better a week too soon than a day too late.

As hard as it is, you are doing the right thing for her. Its not about quantity but quality of life and it sounds like by saying goodbye now, you will be saving her from suffering.

((hugs))

I agreee Doppler - it is time to say goobye. 18 years old is a wonderful age - you've done well by her!!

I too have an 18 yr old cat, not quite as senile as yours - yet!

I agree that if you are considering it then it's probably time. Her quality of life can't be that great now, esp is she no longer goes outside.

You are doing the right thing.

My cat had a tumour in her mouth and I tried all sorts of things but it got bigger. Then one day I saw her trying to put cat food in her mouth with her paw because she couldn't get it in her mouth. I made the call there and then and felt guilty I hadn't done it sooner.

Totally, agree with this. You are absolutely doing the right thing for your cat, its a horrible decision to have to make, but if she could she would thank you I am sure. Thnking of you.

Thanks for all the support. The tumour is getting bigger and last night it was bleeding. I know I am doing the right thing, although had a wobbly moment yesterday when I nearly cancelled vet. But vet is still coming Thursday and although I am dreading it it will be a relief when it is over. She will be buried in the garden under a rose bush, with her brother who we lost 3 years ago and my old pony.
