We are going away for a week on holiday and a friend is coming over to feed the cat twice a day while we are away and hopefully spend a bit of time with him so he doesn't get too lonely.

How much would you pay them?

The person lives 1 minute walk from my house and would need to come twice a day for 6 days.

I was thinking a nice bottle of something and £50. Is this stingy?

There will be food etc in the house but I don't think she will eat or drink anything as she lives so close.

What do you think?

I do this for my neighbour. She pays me £5/day and gives me a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates/biscuits from where she has visited.
I only accept the money as she wishes to keep it a business arrangement, I would happily do it for a box of chocolates :)

Thanks for the replies!

Hopefully what I was thinking is along the right lines then :)

I didn't want to offend her by not offering enough so i think £50 and a bottle of her favourite drink should be ok then.

I think that's very generous.

My neighbour used to give me to feed her cat, goldfish and budge for a week a box of fudge, mind you I did think at the time she was being mean, and I only did it the once because of that as I thought she was taking advantage of me.

A bottle of wine and some chocolates surely is enough???

We looked after their dogs last summer when they went away and they paid us for it and gave us a bottle of something nice as well so would like to reciprocate.

I am happy to pay I just didn't want to appear stingy!

Ah right - well that's absolutely fair enough.

Sounds like a generous and appropriate amount I think.

I'm doing 19 cats next week, visiting 3 x per day, and for no money at all, but then it is for my mum :p and she does have a well stocked booze cupboard with a broken lock :D
