Habibi is 11. She out during the day, comes in around 11 & goes out again after breakfast so 5.30 to 6ish. She sleeps in our bedroom & has a litter tray on the landing - bedroom door is left slightly open.
Up until a couple of months ago she always used the tray at night but recently we have had regular mishaps. It's not that the door has shut & she can't get to the tray - sometimes she passes it & toilets on the bathroom floor. The last couple of weeks we have had a couple of "mishaps" in the bedroom. 2 weeks ago on my show boots :( & this morning near the vanity unit - guess how I discovered that one at 5.15am & yes, I was barefoot!
We have scrubbed the tray in case there was a smell she didn't like. We have tried changing the type of litter. No idea what has caused the change in habits.
She is on Atopica for chronic dermatitis so has regular vet checks.
Any ideas - we have lovely old oak floorboards it the bedroom but there is a bit of a gap between them - early morning poo removal is not my idea of fun & wee really soaks in.

Waitrose own brand. We have tried other brands since & it is just random. She will use tray perhaps once a week, not go indoors 3 or 4 nights & a couple of nights go on the floor somewhere.

Can you put another litter tray downstairs somewhere in case she can't make it to the one upstairs in time?

Downstairs would be further away. The tray is on the landing outside our bedroom where she sleeps at night. Often she will go past the tray to the bathroom & toilet in there.

Get bloods taken. Cats can stop using the tray when they start experiencing discomfort. In our case it was due to kidney problems. I don't know about Atopica, but certainly some drugs can have detrimental effects on the kidneys e.g. Metacam.
