Hi all

My sister's kitten is 5 months old and has been battling ringworm for three months. Every time she comes off the treatment for it, it returns.

She washes bedding, washes the cat, it has some medicine (I don't know what), the house is hoovered daily and some anti-fungal stuff is used to limit spread of spores.

She's now had cultures taken and has been told the cat has the rare ringworm, (well they said it was rare in cats) called Trichophyton mentagrophytes. She has been told it's extremely stubborn to get rid of.

The question is, how did Luna (the cat) become infected? She started developing lesions just a couple of weeks after she bought her.

Is there hope of it ever going? The latest re-infection has started just a few days after she was spayed at the vets and the lesion has appeared alongside the scar. Incidentally, the spaying has produced complications and and a "lump" which they fear could be a hernia. She's likely to require surgery again in the next day or so (possibly tomorrow as she's going to the vets for assessment tomorrow and needs to be starved from tonight, just in case).

If it's any relevance, Luna is a British Shorthaired white kitten.

Also, I'm selfishly concerned for my dog and cat as I child mind my niece for my sister and she's notoriously lacking on the hygiene front....despite my sister's best efforts. I won't be pleased if my own kitten (ours was a stray, not related to my sister's) comes down with it. She's had her own battles being dumped here at roughly 4 weeks of age.
