Hi All
My 8yo has just returned from the Animal Health Trust to have his eye assessed after a sudden drop in performance at Burnham Market ODE. As we suspected he has a full cataract in his left eye and can't see at all out of it.

I now have to make a decision as to whether to leave and let him adapt - which I know they can - well, or to opt for surgery which has a 70-80% chance of complete success, or worse case he loses the eye completely (plus general anaesthetic worries)

His right eye is fine, but as we don't know the cause we have no way of knowing whether this will stay fine.

He is insured and they will pay for op. Im less bothered if his eventing career continues - he's brilliant but it all started by accident and I don't ride him. I do want to continue with the dressage and SJ which I do do but not at a hight level

So, have any of you guys been in the position and what did you do and why?

(Also in Vets)
