Cataract surgery

My mother had it.
I think it may have been a couple of weeks, maybe bit longer.
She had to be very careful with what she did, such as bending down, and exposed herself to.

3 weeks to riding gently but during that recovery time, no lifting or stable work and get some tight fitting wrap around glasses to protect your eyes when you do go back to the stables. I had to hire a freelance groom for the 3 weeks after surgery. Good luck, it's a transformational operation

Those of you who have had cataract surgery, how soon after the op did you start riding again please?

Straight away with goggles on. I was told not to lift weights and not to bend over or do anything that would raise my blood pressure, but I was allowed to ride quietly with full eye protection. I also drove immediately.

Your sight will be completely corrected and perfect as soon as you take off the patch (next day for most people).

I had a very rare complication with my short sighted eye but it was nothing to do with riding and only to do with my odd eyes.

Both my eyes were done in my 50s, it's a genetic problem in my family, we've all had them done young.

Ask your surgeon, though.

Can I ask what type of wrap around glasses do people use and where do you get them from. I waiting to have both eyes done and hoping it will be summer when the horses are out on the track but I will still be handling hay.

I wouldn't use glasses of any kind, they allow dust/seed and wind in around the sides.

You need the type of goggles worn as PPE by people working in dust environments. They are like swimming goggles (I used those too when I needed something smaller).

I'll try and find them, hold on.

A tip for people with the meds.

You'll probably have to use eye drops several times a day and at least one of mine didn't have preservatives and needed to be kept cold. If you're going out, you can use a small plastic box with ice or frozen peas in it, does the job nicely :)

If you search for dry eye glasses, you will find reasonably attractive frames with an inner seal round the eye.. They are more pleasing than goggles to go out in. I can't find the ones I bought but I still I'll have them ten years later and use them in dusty environments
