does anyone have any advice on my mini
he's 12ish now, has ALWAYS been difficult to catch, I've had him about a year, but his previous owners had problems catching him! they used to get him into the corner of a field, scratch his bum then catch him but he ran off a lot!
Since I've had him, I've only been able to catch him by getting him into the field shelter, using the other Shetland, then doing the same thing, with the scratchy bum thing! but he's soooooo scared every time!
Once I have him he loves going for walkies but he's really nervous of new people, like the farrier, he rears when he tries to pick his feet up! he's ok with me!
anyway, im moving yards this weekend and I wont have the other Shetland with us anymore, he will have to come in a night during the winter, and im worried about trying to catch him for hours in the pitch black! I've been sitting in the field with him today and any noise he will jump at!
He'll come over and get really close if I have snack a jacks or hoops and crosses (crisps) but if he thinks you're going to try and touch him, he'll back off! if you get close when he's eating he'll back off away from the bowl. I gave him one of those herby treats, on the floor and when it crunched, he literally jumped out of his skin!
He's got no reason to be so scared, not sure what would have happened in the past but as far as I can see he was really loved, showed in hand, was a stallion until 9! the girl who looked after him, said for months, she'd bring him in and groom in for an hour a day but he never chilled, always hated it?
A pic of him as a thank you for reading
