Just wandering what the correct thing to do is if you catch up with the horse that started before you when going xc? Am I right in thinking you just gallop on past when it is safe to?

Going to do a little H/T this weekend and thought I should check as horse has a big stride on him, thanks

if you catch up with the rider in front the are supposed to give way....but be wary or you'll end up with an incident similar to what happened to myself :)

i shout 'course' and just keep going. in the hunter trials we do its common for horses to jump 3 astride over fences. I had a few issues where a person was neck and neck to me coming into a skinny, but I just have to make a call on it and either go for it, or pull back more.

I shout course and they must always give way, thats how things work in Ireland anyway. I certianly wouldnt be waiting around behind someone, they have to get out of my way!

I just used to shout "Overtaking" and made sure it was well clear of a fence. If I was gaining on them and it looked like it would interfere with them jumping, I'd circle away and ensure they were clear before going to overtake.

Probably a stupid question but do you encore penalties for crossing tracks xc?

Yes, but you have to properly present to get them rather than SJ where a circle is pretty much a stop.
