Cats + Horses

My young cat PJ O'Loonasy has just started going up to the yard and field with me and has met horses for the first time. While I was grooming the horses last night he came up and was walking casually around their legs. The connemara was munching a bit of Horsehage and the PJ started playing with the long strands hanging from his mouth! This horse is usually very narky around food but he wasn't bothered at all and totally ignored the cat. Unfortunately my digital camera is off being cleaned but I'll try and get photos when it comes back.

The thing that amazes me always about cats and horses is how cats seem totally unafraid of horses and horses unbothered by cats (though mind you I have seen several stable cats who have been shortened in the tail department). You would think given the size difference horses would be terrifying to cats but then cats have great illusions of grandeur and probably think they are great big tigers.

Not a good idea to let the cat cosy up round his legs- I saw one very nearly killed through the horse just side stepping and standing on the cat. Totally not on purpose, horse didnt realise what it had done.
 
Then I wish someone would have a word with my OH's Border Terrier.

My cat has grown up around horses and is really good around them, I don't let her under legs though! The horses are generally pretty good, but the foals freak out about her from time to time!
 
Bob does not like cats - no idea why. Obviously to a Human they are small, cuddly animals (one is sat on my lap as I type) but to my horse they must appear 10 times the size!!! He likes chickens even less - again no idea why. They had them at the last farm and every time one came near him he'd try and get it. He wasn't successful luckily enough, at least I don't think he was!!!
 
The Moose thinks cats are fascinating. i was riding her in the school once and a cat appeared and walked along the wall, and she watched it for ages. I don't know what she'd do if one tried to walk round ehr feet though. She's good at not walking on silly little 5-year old girls, so I am sure she'd avoid stepping on a cat.
