Bit of a way off, but this will take some planning! My soon to be Husband will be based at Catterick come January 2015 and I will be joining him with my horse. I am looking for a super livery yard where I can have him on a full or full/part basis as I will be working during the week.
He is a sensitive TB, so looking for a nice barn type yard, individual turn out, good hacking with quiet lanes, somewhere to park my little lorry (3.5t) with good tack room etc, he is fine on straw so long as its good quality, am happy to provide feed, but hay included would be a bonus.
I need to also suss out who is a good farrier, vet, equine dentist, tack shops, feed merchants, saddlers/menders! As well as who does clinics, where the good venues/ECs etc are. I have heard good things about Richmond, but as yet haven’t been up there to suss it all out.
Any advice gratefully received

I'm near Richmond, 30 mins away. I can't help on the yard front but can help with the other things. Competing wise Richmond is decent, also Northallerton, lots on, they have clinics etc fairly regularly, and lots of sj, dressage, eventing. There's a place called Appleton Grange which seems to have lots on but I've never been.

I wouldn't recommend livery at Richmond as you can rarely use the facilities, went to try a horse there with a friend and could only ride in the smallest arena, then the second viewing no arena at all had to just hack.

Saddler who comes up to the area every few weeks is Andy Wheals, he is brilliant wouldn't use anyone else. Dentist Paul Waudby, again brilliant and wouldn't use anyone else. Vets wise I'm not sure of the catchment area for you. Farrier I use is Steven Beane, very good.

I 100% agree with the above! !

Richmond & Northallerton are fab for shows & training! Helen bells (breckenbrough) is great for cross country schooling & has a lot on this year so I can imagine will next year too!

Appleton grange is only a few miles from my yard but I've not even been yet! Hoping to go schooling there soon as they have good indoor xc course :)

Not really sure re livery liz harris who is my mctimoney (recommend) lives & liveries at a yard just along the road from Richmond equestrian & it sounds like a nice yard !
Def andy wheels for saddler he worked wonders with mine !

& I would never use any other farrier to Steven hes been my farrier since I was 10 :)
