caution young horse tabard ? yay or nay?

I wear 'Horse in Training' when riding all mine on the roads, whether good or not. Find the drivers are a bit more sympathetic when/if one decides to prat around!

If its a case of admitting liability then the people who have the green P plates when they have just passed their driving test are also admitting liability. And it goes on...........

Well my polite one certainly didnt work today - stupid driver- have now ended up with a split lip and much bruising (nearly lost teeth) and I was actually discussing whether the young horse one commands much better respect from drivers- too many people wearing the POLITE range now to shock drivers into slowing down IMHO.

Called my insurance company who said the tabard writing makes no difference- the lady behind the phone said her one states 'mardy mare' !!

I prefer 'Please pass wide and slow' or something similar, as the way I see it, non-horsey folk may not know that a young horse might be more likely to spook etc, so it may not make as much difference xx

I wrote my own 'young horse' message on a blank hi-viz and to be fair I did notice a difference, yes some say your admitting liability an all that jazz but at the end of the day my horses safety is more important than whether the insurance pays out or not, if it means drivers slow down and pass wider that little bit more then I don't care, a driver should be going slow enough when passing to read it anyway.

I put L plates on my tabard when I have the youngsters out. People seem to respond to this in a cheerful way. They probably think it is me that is the learner :)

I also have "L" on my tabbard (you can get them made on ebay). Why would drivers understand what a "young horse" means - L plates are the language of drivers.

I agree with what Kaylum said "If its a case of admitting liability then the people who have the green P plates when they have just passed their driving test are also admitting liability. And it goes on.."

IDX

I found mine made no difference and after I was told by the policewoman on my yard it could be argued as admitting liability I stopped wearing it anyway! :)

It doesn't ;)

I find 'Please pass wide and slow' best, and then ignorant drivers know what they ought to do.
