Hey everyone, saw the "money is no object" post below and it had a lot of HHo peeps discussing Cavalier traits...
I have a Cavalier beast, does anyone else have one or dealt with one? I know they are a law unto themselves so any other experiences?

Well, I know many an event rider with one. Real professional horses, can be v quirky and I know of a few very strong ones too. You have to know how to deal with them sypathetically and professionally. Of course there are exeptions to the rules and some Cavaliers are easy peasy. One thing though- normally VERY talented with the right person.

Yep I've got one out of a ID/TB mare. He was jumping as a youngster but I mainly do dressage with a bit of xc and sj. I've had him 3 years and he was a complete nightmare. He could put anyone on the floor and regularly did!. Glad to say he's now grown up to be a great dressage pony and lovely to be around. He can still be a stress head but you just have to be quiet and calm and not tackle him head on.

I was the one with the Cavalier posting last night. He is now 9 and as I said a complete superstar at the show jumping age classes until they overjumped him and he became terrified. When we tried him and bought him this was not apparent as he was like a robot with no personality and he just did his job when asked so we didnt realise that there was any problem. He settled in with us and then the problems started he napped and reared and rushed into any jumps, he was terrified with poles on the ground within 10 mins of being tacked up he was a complete sweat ball, grinding his teeth on the bit. I called the physio and it seems that the tack he had been ridden in did not fit so he was underdeveloped on the right hand side so we lunged him for 8 weeks and then started to take it slowly. Well it is as though he has gone through a nervous breakdown and he is now coming out the other side, boy does he have talent so our job is to convince him to believe in himself and it is happening slowly. Watch this space as I hope our faith in him will be repaid and he will also continue to enjoy what he is doing we want to slowly take him back to Grand Prix and I honestly believe this will be possible. He is a sweet personality and plays with us now in the stable if we are not up for any reason he is very grumpy and needs reasssured when we return.

Thanks guys. Ahh someone should do a study of them because they sound so similar! Mine gets worked up with poles, wings jumps and blocks..he cannot stand to do jump schooling as he goes into orbit and jumping logs on hacks turns into death defying stunts! Hes out of a P2P mare, and I really want to find out how he was broken and trained as we can tell for sure hes been overfaced with a strong probably male rider, he lacks his own confidence sometimes but he has all the talent i need in one hoof!
C_O_L_T mine loves to grind teeth!its like his version of nervously biting his nails as he only does it under assumed pressure.
Do you have any pics?mines in my siggy...

Hi - yes we should do a study,we got to get them to believe in themselves. Funny that about grinding on the bit I know what you mean about nail biting in humans. We now jump using the ears/fly veil you know the thing that poncy show jumpers use and boy does it make a difference it deadens the sound and for him that is great. I am putting him on valerian for a few weeks to see if it chills him out even further before we compete again. He is the handsome one on my avatar and also 4 in from the left on my siggy standing in the sand paddock looking dopey. I was able to talk to the guy that had ridden mine for 5 years, he had been broken before he got him but he rode him as a job and he was good at it so they kept on but no real feeling for the animal underneath the talent and winnings. Then when he started to go wrong it was sell him on and we got him. He was definetely rapped with poles but we have conquered that and will keep on going as we love him to bits

Mine does the teeth grinding thing as well when put under pressure. He has obviously been beaten at some stage. He was also sold on when the double clears at BN and Disc turned to nasty stops. Strange they sound so similar

Its so odd they all sound so similar. Again mine wears those ears, and it helps alittle jumping indoors as the sound is amplified. Hes also on nupafeed calmer..poor ponies! This post makes them sound like nervous wrecks!
