Need some advise on how I can introduce the cat back into the house. Sooty (tom cat neutered) used to live in the house with Sweep (Sweep is scared of him

) until Max arrived. Since then Sooty isn't allowed in the house by either dog. If he sees Sweep outside he will rub up against hims and Sweep stands there with that 'OMG its cat and I am scared' look on his face and a couple of times Max has got close and had a swift slap from him but they will not let him in the house.

I thought to start with Sooty would just sort it out as he is quite a fiesty dominant cat but he hasn't - wuss.

I would like some tips on how to stop the mutts picking on him as I miss stroking my pussy!!

put the dogs out the back, then get the cat in the front! give him a tray etc, then let dogs back in and keep an eye on them, dont let them pack up against the cat! just let mingle quietly. dont leave them unsupervised! in time harmony and the cat will win!

u need to be firm with the dogs though, could you baby gate an area....i.e my stairs are baby gated for the cats, they can eat their food in peace and the dogs get to watch them in a calm manor, I alo if I have a new dog in.......bring he cat into the living room then the dogs follow with me ready to reprimand if need be, they need to see the cat more indoors in a calm manor.
I have 2 cats out back(they are rescue) they have a cattery but one hangs around out doors, my dogs will chase him if they go out there, he is a dumb ass though and sits there, and the dogs just stare cos they dare not do anything to him

bring the cat in more often, but try not to carry him in when the dogs are tere this often sets them into a freinzy and they will jump up, so get cat in first get everything calm and then let dogs in.
Also check out doors before u let the dogs out, if need be stand out there and reprimand the dogs for anu unwanted attention and encourage the cat in with food, and block the dogs from following, let them know they may beable to keep the cat out, but NOT WHEN U ARE THERE

Your house, your cat, your dogs, you decides who goes in and who doesn't!

If it was my dogs I would let them hear they lived. Then I would take the cat, sit down with it right in front of the dog/dogs, preferably making sure to hold the cat slightly higher than the dog/dogs, be really fuzzy, cuddly and praising <u>the cat</u> and sometimes also feeding the cat really tasty treats e.g. cheese, butter or meat, without letting the dog/dogs have any. Simply letting the dogs know that I place this family member higher in rank than them.

Wild wolves always suck up to a high ranking wolf. By sucking up to the cat and ignoring the dogs, I show that, according to me, they have an insignificant rank compared to the cat. (It is not as if doing that would make the cat believe he/she have higher rank than their owner, cats usually seems to be born with that belief.) As Bossdog said on the other thread, any "wrong" looks in the dogs eyes and they're either quickly told off and/or I praise the cat even more, "Oh such a good a cat you are, what are those mean dogs thinking..." with lots of kisses near/on the cats head, holding it like a long lost treasure etc.

Ditto the baby gates, the dogs only have access to certain areas whereas cats have the run of the house, I think this probably reinforces the pack heirarchy (ie cats at the top!!
