haven't done one of these before but thought i'd be brave!

i won't give you any info on my boy until later as i'd like to see what peoples opinions are of him. excuse the poor photo, it was taken as a last minute thought in semi darkness and he was wanting to go to bed! :D
also what do you think his age (and maybe even breed)?
thanks in advance.

He looks just like my daughters irish TB.

Although slightly chunkier face. Maybe 3/4Tb with a smidge of ID

Lovely boy:D

i've been told he is ID x belgium warmblood by quite a few people (vets/EDT's/saddle fitters/mctimoney/etc) and his passport says the same too.

he is a lovely boy though and i'm very lucky to own him. :D

Not the best of pics of him but you did ask for a cc so here's mine. I do love chestnuts, nicest colour of all.

Looks in his early teens.

Don't like his back legs much, but will partly blame you for the bad stance :D

Bit flat in the foot, maybe.

A tad long in the back, weak behind the saddle.

Lacking proper musculature on top.

But a nice useful lad, obviously well loved and cared for so very lucky :)

Can you ask your vet/dentist etc why they thought the cross was with a Belgian WB? The ID is screamingly obvious but the cross could be anything or nothing to my eye.

they couldn't say why they thought he was belgium warmblood x, they just 'had the feeling'. i have other pics of him but all taken a while ago (that show him side on!).

he had just shuffled forward before i took the pic, i was by his stable door and he wasn't happy that the yard cat was trying to get in his bed! :D

when i get a few more CC's (if i do!) then i will give all the info.

oh and i have no problems with anyone saying anything negative as i already know his 'faults'! ;)

Similar to another poster above. My immediate thought was ID X, early teens, not too sure about the back legs, but could be stance. He looks good natured and honest - I think I'd get on with him :-)

Well firstly you love him and he's well cared for and probably does everything you want him to and so that's what matters whatever anyone's opinion. For me, he has poor hind limbs, long pastern, low tail set. I'd like more shoulder and slightly less length of back with more musculature behind saddle, he has a low set on neck. On the plus side, he has a pleasant head, a reasonable length of hip to buttock, enough depth of body and short cannons.

Can definitely see ID in him. Belgian wb is a type rather than a specific breed (ie. there is no breed standard) - I've got a homebred who is by a Belgian wb stallion out of a KWPN mare - he looks like a show hunter!

Lots to like about him - looks a good honest sort but as others have said, he doesn't have a great set of hind legs.

ok here we go! he is a 19yr old ex hunter, i've owned him for 7yrs.
he came to me after doing his tendon (offside hind) for the second time, he has arthritis in his hind legs and near side shoulder, has damaged his DDFT in his nearside front (vet says easiest way to describe it is that it's lost all elasticity over the years).
5.5yrs ago he had liver fluke. 4yrs ago he had really bad lymphangitis in his off hind. then 3yrs ago he got it extremely bad in his near hind, at the time he was already having lameness problems with his near front so we thought it would be the end of him, the vet gave him 24hours to move, luckily he did and he kept improving. because of the fluke his liver is so badly damaged that any illness wipes him out.

2.5yrs ago we thought we were going to lose him again due to him not improving with field rest and he started look old and depressed.
a year ago the vet said to retire him, my horse had other ideas after 2 weeks so would do gentle hacks (max 20mins!) couple times a week.

each year for the last 4yrs we thought we were going to lose him, he does very little work but is happy with what he does. we can't do schooling because of the extra pressure it would put on his legs. i also have to keep him on the slender side so again it reduces the pressure on his legs.

so that should hopefully explain why he does have a funny stance but he's happy so am i. he's such a gentle horse, my kids ride him all the time and he looks after them. if he had been a nutcase on the ground and in the stable then he would have been pts at the start but because he is so easy to do it's been a pleasure to keep him going, the time will come one day and i know he will tell me. he is basically a pampered pet!

Well how lucky is he to have you. He's lovely and a real gent by the sound of it. Well done for giving him chance.

thanks but we are as stubborn as each other so i guess it has worked, he doesn't want to give up and neither do it! :D

i'm lucky to have him, he got me out of depression and somehow we are working well together.

Given his age and problems he looks remarkably well :)

thankyou, that's why i didn't want to say too much at the start as i wanted peoples opinions of him as if he was in full work etc etc. also why i didn't mind what people said. at end of day he's a crippled horse with more lives than your average cat and should have been pts years ago but he's determined.
also he's not on pain relief unless he's having a bad day. most days he will canter around like a looney and loves it when he can beat up the ponies and he does forget he can't chase and turn like they can.

Given all that, what a lucky and determined boy he is and to have you to care for him for the rest of his days, may there be many more!

He's a very lucky boy! Considering everything he has been through I think he looks very well and healthy. He sounds like a lovely boy.
