Took some photos this evening of my gelding.

Would you all cast your eye over him and be brutally honest please :)

He is 4 1/2 years old, 15.2h, sire anglo-arab, dam pba

He has been turned away for two months due to weather. Came back into work last week.

Hmm, well I am certainly no expert on these matters and I think overall he's a nice type and I don't care an awful lot for conformation unless there's something seriously 'wrong' but, being 'critical' i would say firstly he obviously still has a bit of maturing and growing to do. I can't tell very well as he's against the white wall but he looks a little bum high still in the first pic (could be wrong though due to the wall!). He looks like he is hunching behind a bit in the first pic as well and seems a bit straight through the hock but in the 2nd pic not so much.

He does look upright through his shoulder but the lines down to his pastern look fine and his limbs straight.

So, overall I think he looks nice and nothing about his conformation would out me off him. My horse is upright in front but I've had him since a 4 yo and he's 20 this year and it's never affected him in any way at all although i guess you could say he's not a particularly extravagant mover but then that doesn't bother me as I bought him for jumping.

I think when yours is muscled up he will look very nice. I would watch for wastag in front of his wither though so ensure your saddle fits correctly before you start trying to build up his topline at all. He just looks to have a bit of a 'dip' in front of his wither at the moment.

ok i'll have a go:
he has similar back legs to my 3 year old. Heels quite low to the ground and bordering on slightly sickle hocked though could just be the way he is stood- seen more in first pic.
fetlocks are good length, not too long or short. quite powerful hind with good length from hock to point of hip. hindquarters could have more muscle but if he is only 4 1/2 could be why.
back looks quite short. nice well sprung rib cage.
shoulders and fetlocks on forelegs look quite upright indicating paces could be quite short. But it is good that both the sloping of the fetlock and shoulder is at the same gradient.
Neck looks a little short and looks like he has a slight ewe neck BUT my 3 year old looks the same and with him its just cos obviously he is not in work so has not developed a topline yet which I am guessing is the reason for this on your horse. I'm guessing he isnt in full work yet?
He is very cute with a wonderful kind eye :)

I am by no means an expert. Just talking about what we have been taught at uni bout confo.

the replies are wonderful thank you - really finding them interesting to read. I dont really mind what's good and what's bad but thoroughly interesting stuff!

Yes he is lacking muscle at the moment as only came back into work last week. Hoping his topline etc will improve with the work :D

I would say that his hocks looking upright could be because of the arab in him and the lack of muscling. I don't think he's particularly straight in the shoulder but the marking make him look that way as does the way he's standing.

He's a nice looking horse. :)
