You do what I do with my hands and rotate them inwards so that your knuckles point upwards, I really have to concentrate on not doing and get told off a lot. You have great posture lucky thing

cc on your hacking would be that it definitely needs to be given to me

Nice pony too :)

My friend and I have him on part loan, and he's about 12 miles from where we are - an area I've never ridden in before - it is just brilliant hacking! I may have to move house :p

Love your pony - just my type! I wish me and my boy looked as relaxed and chilled as you and yours do. you look like you are having fun:)

Please check your martingale, the stops are intended to keep the rings from getting caught up on the rein fastenings and you have yours on the wrong side. It also looks too long to have any effect so unless you think he needs it, in which case you need it shortened, you might as well take it off and leave the breastplate.

btw if you keep your elbows in and close the back of your armpits, as a previous poster said that will bring your hands to a more correct position. Nice pony and gorgeous hacking:)

Thankyou, I will check it. He is only on part loan so that is just how his tack was set up when we started riding him.

Must remember cups of tea!!

I used to be told this as a child and is something that has really stuck with me! :D

The other one my trainer says is that "ebows are L bows and not straight bows" :)

I agree with lengthening the stirrups. Particularly as your leg looks to be drawing up a bit (at the heel) in some of the pics. You may find a longer leg with take some of the tension out. Then again you may not, but worth a go!

I like that! It will help me to remember :D

The stops are a safety issue so worth talking to the owner about, or at least changing it when you are riding.

I will subtly change them I think ;)

In light of quite a few good long chats, and this thread, my friend and I who part loan together, have come to the conclusion that we are both pretty rubbish riders! We're moderately confident on stable management as neither of us are afraid to learn and are constantly reading and asking, but riding is different... You can't learn it from a book!

We have a summer of regular lessons planned - we both agreed today that we are both determined to become good riders and all round horsewomen, and I personally want to break my fear of jumping!

We both have a very good relationship with boyo on the ground, and after a good few years away from the horsey world we are both soaking it all up like sponges and enjoying every minute! :D

He is a gorgeous boy and you are doing a great job with him! I don't think you should be so harsh on yourself, you are not a rubbish rider you just have the odd 'naughty' habit we all have!

I would agree with the others that it would be helpful to try to work a bit on your arms and hands, while keeping the reins shorter so that you have a connection to his mouth then you will start getting a feel for all the energy coming from behind.

Lessons are the way to go for everyone in my opinion! You'll get someone experienced talking you through what to do step by step and there is no substitute for that.
