pics aren't too great - took them on my phone

brownies for everyone that can be bothered replying

He looks slightly....doughy?!! For lack of better word! Like you could prod his side and not feel his ribs? IMO he doesn't necessarily look like he needs to loose *a lot* of weight, but more that he needs to tone up a little.

What breed is he? And what do you do with him? He's a very handsome boy

in his defence, he's spent the last 5 weeks on box rest :(

it would have helped if he hadn't decided that the camera looked edible :p
is it better for him to be carrying a few extra pounds at 20? think i'd prefer it to him be skinny. he was on 16+ when he first came over, which could explain why he's put on some weight. He came from a hot climate and I wasn't sure how he would cope with winter but obviously he's had no issues :p

you can feel his ribs - you don't have to press hard. He's KWPN and he's a jumper but i want to try a few things with him to mix it up a bit. I've got my eye on a bit of showing, jump-x and dressage assuming he manages to not injure himself again

Oh no, what did the silly sausage do to himself??

Yes, now that you mention his age - think it is better he is a little more 'well' than anything else. Once he comes of box work he will tone up from the extra movement anyway :)

Looking forward to pics of your schooling and adventures....fingers crossed he doesn't do anything silly!!

thanks for the comments.
the first injury was a pulled sacroiliac muscle which resulted in 3 weeks off. i managed to ride for 8 days before the muppet got tangled in a wire fence and cut himself - cue another 2 weeks off with the addition of a massive vets bill :(

I think he's lacking muscle tone around his hind quarters - I have lots of hill work planned once he gets shod (had to cancel his last visit to the farrier) and then it's back onto the lunge in the Pessoa to get fit for jumping over the summer.

I can't wait to try showing with him because he's such a poser when he has an audience :p

Ah...what a silly boy!! Hill work sounds like a good plan.

Yes, he seems very comfortable with the camera and is very handsome so I wish you every luck!!
