Ok, I'm biting the bullet and posting some videos of my cob!
I know he doesn't work in a consistent outline, and sometimes he overbends, but he actually used to do flat work with his legs between his knees!
Also, please ignore me talking on the vids.
In the first two I was actually trying to do some counter canter work, and to do a flying change! (which we did once, but otherwise he just went disunited)

any general opinions on him welcome, weight, conf, how far he could go showing wise etc!

also a little jump (and please excuse his wind! :o ) :

Also, please keep in mind I had not ridden for two weeks, so my riding is not at its best!

WOW - what a jump!!!!
Beautiful boy, looks like a lovely ride :) no CC I'm afraid as I haven't got a clue :p but have you ever thought of doing something jump wise?

I'd grow his tail a bit longer! Also try and free his shoulder up a bit on corners and bends, he seems to 'fall' in and be looking to the outside. He does have nice active paces though :) The bit on the second video about 22secs is what you're looking for.

Lovely pony has a very nice canter. He engages behind quite nicely.

He has some nice moments when he starts looking for a contact when he does this go with him try and soften yourself as much as possible. The aim is to get him to be more consistent.

The dis-united in the flying change could be either because your asking at the wrong time, you should try and ask at the moment when his back comes up. As your using a pole this a bit easier. If timing is correct then it could be because he isn't engaged behind enough and could do with being collected a bit more, I found cantering a small circle prior to the change helps.

I don't know much about showing but I think he looks like he could do well. He certainly has a pop in him do you plan on doing any jumping? :)

Thank you so much for all the positive comments!
all the constructive crit is really helpful too.

He doesn't usually have wind, but that day he was like a steam train! lol

I haven't done much competitive wise, we've done a non competitive 2ft9 hunter trial, which he flew round (albeit a bit faster than I would've liked!)

Re his tail, yes lovely and thick! but nearly all WHITE. such a pain to keep clean!

Trampas will be very glad to know he's got some fans! ;)

also, though I know it's hard to tell from videos, any crit condition wise? He does have a very thick coat, and I worry that it makes him look a better weight than he is.

thanks again for all the lovely comments!

Nice cob: properly forwards like they should be:D

But he actually needs to slow down a bit. He looks rushed and unbalanced. He could do with slowing his rythem down a bit so he can take a longer stride and stay in balance. Once he's learnt to balance with a longer stride and lower head carraige you can pick the speed up a bit again.

It also affects your rising in trot as when he's rushing you 'over rise' and make him hollow. There was a couple of nicer bit when he slowed down a little, you put less effort into rising and going with him, and he could balance, relax and take a longer stride.

His wieght is hard to tell from a video but it wouldn't hurt him to loose a few lbs. He looks like he moves well (and will move better once he's learnt to slow and balance) so should do well showing.

He is lovely and looks very willing. If you could go back to making him walk and stride out without rushing and then when he is happy go to trot etc and basically practice transitions.

He's a lovely chap :)

I would look at working on straightness before anything else. He is not bending correctly around you and without this more difficult movements will be impossible. Working on straightness will help with the flexing to the outside (which my boy also does - was your boy driven ever?)

Condition wise he has nice peachy bum so you don't want him any heavier. As a traditional purist I would say grow his mane, tail and feathers or chop the lot - hog and clip feathers to go with your short tail - but to be honest that's only necessary for showing.

Thanks for all the advice.

I can really see where everyone is coming from, but re the rushing he did get a lot better later in the session, but camera a had died by then!

I think I am going to let his feathers and mane and tail grow out, I'v always kept them short before as he's had malanders and mites, but now I've had some really good advice on getting rid of and preventing them, so I can have my dream hairy pony! ;)

interesting what's been said about his weight, I will try and upload a photo. He's not a good doer over winter so usually get comments on how skinny he is! (well, for a cob anyway :P)
