I think he has improved topline but not ure if im being biased!!

yes he has definitly grown a belly- he is now coming in to stare at hay during the day e has changed fields 2 weeks ago and has podged out!! Never thought i would have to restrict a tb!!

Are you working him regularly in the pessoa? He's still lacking in top line and if you are and he's still that hollow I'd be questioning saddle fit. also what are you feeding? I know you can't feed on muscle but you can create the right conditions :-)

he is worked once weekly in equi ami, and ridden for last 3 weeks in an ann rees balancing rein. Saddle only just been re checked- sadler reckons he will always be hollow behind whiters to some extent as his whither is so high. He is only on grass at present, he doesnt really need anything for energy but i also am questioning feed as i think maybe he needs the extra to help build muscle now?

If he has enough energy, I think what he needs now is more correct work to build his muscles. It takes months to be get what you are looking for. You could try using a whisp to develop muscle in the old-fashioned way.

I'd increase that to twice a week on the equiami and do pole work. Alternating between wide poles that will lengthen his stride and topline right out and shorter, raised poles to contract and lift the core muscles. Carrot stretches are good for softening tight muscles at the base of the neck at the wither. I did all this with my old TB and he changed shape hugely :-)

Thanks guys, Im in no hurry to achieve the muscle the aim is to be out in a competitive way next year. We are popping to the odd local comp at present to try and help him be relaxed at different venues etc.
Will increase equi ami work and start doing more poles. Thanks

I think he is better for the amount of time that has passed. He certainly has more muscle on the top part of his neck and his back end is rounding off nicely. His withers which are not going to disappear no matter how much top line he gets!

Keep doing what you are doing but give it more time for a more spectacular difference.

Agree with Booboos - I do think he is looking better and it won't happen overnight. I'd be inclined to get him a physio checkup though, as you've obviously changed the type of work he's doing. Physio will deal with any sore muscles and can suggest various exercises tailored to him (better than we can online, as they'll see him in the flesh).

Thanks guys i know its only a short period so will take more time to see marked difference. He is due physio at end of month he gets checked every 4 months will ask about exercises etc. Thanks
