Just wanted your opinions on the change in our school work.

This is august last year just before things started going down hill and the behaviour got very bad. I know what i see in this photo and i aint pretty!

These photos are 5 weeks at a new yard with new feed, turnout and change of instuctor who has been schooling him twice a week also. Improvements and if yes what are they?

Great improvement in both of you. He looks more relaxed and softer in his mouth and neck and you are more balanced and sympathetic with your hands. You both look happy.

Have to admit the first pic is pretty horrid, you are both stiff and fighting against each other. Your new instructor is doing a wonderful job!

beautiful horse.

Your position has improved greatly. Just a few little niggles, you are doing what i do, tipping forwards and looking down. There is some great advice on the recent CC thread i posted to help combat this :)

Thanks bh we realised I was using a driving seat and now I'm taking a lighter seat I'm tipping a little, just need to find a happy medium!

I quite agree! It's funny when this photo was taken I was under the impression this was good hence why things went downhill just constantly fighting each other! I took what my instructor told me as gospel unfortunately by the time I realised their teaching methods were not working for us it was too late. Me and new instructor are now battling to undo all the bad work.

Walk is 90% there, trot 75%. I'm not schooling him in canter yet only when we jump as this is where our tensions used to creep in so my instructor is facing the wall of death for now:D

he looks kuch softer and more on the bit now rather than previously, he looked like he was just being held in...much better now :-)

Your position is much better, better softness through the reins and he generally looks much more relaxed.
Glad you've found an instructor better suited to you both :)

Sounds like you and your instructor are doing a great job working together and that you're a lot happier, well done! I agree with what's said above, your position is much much nicer in this, you look a lot more stable and he is going into your hand rather than against it. he's very cute and I am also a bit jealous of your bridle!!! :-)

Not even sure I should be responding to this as you look pretty damn good to me and I aint no expert! But having just got back from a fantastic 3 day bootcamp with Mary Wanless, focussing on rider position, and seeing a couple of things you do that look like the things I do .... :)

Like people said, so much nicer and well done you!

Teeny weeny things to suggest - I wonder if you are still hollowing a little in your back (I've been told, think about pushing your waistband back from the bottom of your spine) and/or pointing your pelvis slightly upwards and away from the pommel, maybe less weight in your feet and more in your thighs, knees slightly more turned in and on to the saddle, your wrists look slightly turned in.

But that is picky beyond words so feel free to ignore me and keep up the good work. I daren't post a pic of me, I'd get ripped to shreds, I am getting better at the theory, putting it into practice is quite another thing :) Lots of bad habits that I'm finding hard to get out of !!

Much improved! Lovely length in the neck now and you are not hauling on your hands putting him into a false outline, much better over his back too.

Well done!

I'm not qualified to give CC as you ride much better than me - but just to say your boy is soooo handsome - and you both look so much more relaxed and happy in the second and third photo. If you ever want to come and school my cob, you're welcome - we really struggle with contact (prob because I'd much rather hack out then school him). xx

Thank you for the great feedback!

That bridle is a hand my down nothing special if we keep progressing I might actually buy him one:D

Believe me this did not come easy some of the videos I've got show us both at our worst, he used to throw everything at you! Because he's so wiggly and unbalanced I've found the only way to get him working like he is is to really get him bending round the leg. Now I can feel exactly what his shoulders/neck are doing and make a little tweak before it turns into a proper falling in.

Trying to have lessons on lots of different horses too trying to feel different contacts etc

First photo is extremely tense. Horse is tense all over, neck is short and although he 'looks' as if he's working correctly , he's not. He's backwards. Also tension through neck , throat and jaw. Your position is pointless, youve collapsed your stomach and dropped your shoulders. Pretty much impossible to 'open' up and allow to go forwards.

Second photo is alot better, both of you look much more relaxed. Horse looks 'open' and ready to use his body correctly. :)

as the others have siad, you both look happier and more relaxed.

my only comment would be that he's more on his forehand, but you're leaning forwards, so you both need to re-find your balance. Plenty of positive transitions will help him, and my instructor stopped me tipping forwards by saying to me I had to point where I was going with my chin!
