I will be very interested in your reply. I can only view from my computer as I don't have an I phone or I pad. Does anyone know if there is anywhere else I can view from, presumably a separate monitor?

I use Motorola Hubble Wi-Fi home security cameras at home and can't see why you couldn't use them in a stable. You'd just need to attach them somewhere dry and relatively sheltered.

You download a free app to any device to watch the live feed. RSPCA recommend then as pet monitors because they have sound and you can talk through them to calm a panicking dog.

I have the model 66b which is a bit basic and the model 85 which I like because I can pan and zoom using the app. Both cameras have a night vision. My friend picked them up for me from Costco. The model 85 cost around £70. I don't have any ongoing costs. You can choose to sign up for extra services and pay a monthly amount.

Two main questions:
Do you have mains power for the cameras and is there an internet connection?
If there's no landline for broadband then you would need either a mobile phone or mifi mobile dock (effectively gives you internet access without a phone or phoneline) to access them remotely.

I got some IP cameras and connected them via Ethernet over power to the broadband network in the house. They are wireless but they were just out of range of the house so had them connect to a WiFi access point on my network. Went into router settings to allow access to the cameras via a static IP and port. Then I can watch it on any internet connected device

You're best with IP cctv cameras rather than the old analogue cameras. This allows easy networking.

With mine i used mains networking plugs. One plugs a lan cable into my router, the others plug a lan cable into each camera and also close enough to run the power cable too. I found wifi a bit unreliable and the camera wouldn't autoconnect if it lost wifi connection.

You could run lan cables to each along with power or power over ethernet then into a network hub, and then to your router.

Foscam are a good but cheap brand of camera with plenty of support. You will need led lighting on them for night viewing. They also have ios/android apps to view over the internet. Software with the camera allows you to set up on a pc initially.

The techy bit is that sometimes the internet address (IP) of your computer changes when your router resyncs and that can throw off the internet viewing bit. What decent suppliers do is have a dedicated login on their software apps and a bit of software that runs on your computers so that if the IP address changes, it squirts the new address to their app.

I have cameras connected by Cat-6 cable to a DVR in the house. The DVR connects to the router. We can access live and recorded disagree on phones, PCs, etc from anywhere. The hard bit is the connection through the router as domestic routers change IP address every few weeks, so I use an external proxy.

I use wireless IP cameras (http://www.fire-monitoring.com/cctv/) in my house and I have it connected to the WiFi. Wireless cameras are easy to install and can be easily connected to the home wifi network. Sometimes, there may be some network coverage problem, but you can install a Wifi booster to take care of that problem.

I would like to do this but have no broadband at stables and yard is about 8miles from home. Is there anyway to do this? We do have electric but no landline or broadband.

You either last a cable or you use mobile internet. Both will be eye wateringly expensive.

I have a cctv set up which uses a dongle. My brother in law designed the system. Have had it installed since December and still haven't used up the credit on the pay as you go dongle (£20). This is running two cameras and I check on my horse quite frequently. He sells the systems, all you need is mains power i.e. a plug and you are ready to go.

Where can I get one of these?!

Didn't want people to think this thread has died but I have PM'd sunleychops as did not know what advertising rules were on here, but yes there are systems available where you can use a dongle if you do not have a phone line. All you need is a power supply.
