Has anyone used this specialist? My mare is being refered to him with a lameness problem.just wanted to know what people thought of him?? I have heard he is very good but wondered if anyone else had used him.
i never said he was not a nice man, he is .
But when i have got 5k to spend to get my horse right, i need value for money, i need the best service possible, and most importantly the horse sound again.
The equine insurance world is responsible for many a vet having a fantastic house, a car worth more money than most peoples houses ect.
Vets dont look at the people at home struggling to pay their bills, vets do screw us, you only have to see the massive savings that can be made for drugs bought on line instead of the practice.
Just because somebody is a "name" does not make them the best, the vets all stick together they all look after themselves.
If my vet i was using could not treat the lameness, id get another vet...what did we used to do before these "equine consultants"
I did query the bill, but thats how much it was, id be asking for his hourley rate before i used him.
Im being frank and honest here...we are in the middle of a resession, people are skint, and being horse owners we need more assistance from the equine services industries to give us horse owners a fair deal.
Don't quite understand where this rant has come from. Tempting to ignore it however since this topic seems to arise regularly on these forums -worth making a couple of points:-
Why should the car your vet drives or the house he lives in bother you? Presumably he has worked hard to attain these. My dentist drives a 60 registered Porsche and lives in a mansion, however as long as he does a good job on my teeth good luck to him.
Of course you are entitled to query a vet bill & request an itemised account BUT remember that insurance companies will also scrutinise vet bills and are quick to query any charges which they feel are inappropriate.
Since it is estimated that approximately 30% of horses in the UK are insured, presumably vets are getting fat off insured horses but subsidising non-insured ones - NOT the case I think you'll find.
The cost of drugs via Internet providers compared to Vets has been done to death, and the reasons for this well-documented in this and other forums. May I suggest that next time you have a colicky horse at 11 pm, you phone your Internet provider & see what response you get.
Yes, there is a recession - but has it occured to you that it may also be affecting your vet?
Lastly, and most importantly, just remember that a number of vets can view these forums and frequently offer advice and support usually in their 'free time' and at no cost to other forum users.
Happy New Year!
Off the topic, but this ^^^ worries me. Surely the whole point of grading is to weed out animals with flaws like OCD, that can be genetic???? If he is a stallion then I would be horrified. If you graded him to make him worth more, or to count for his mother's offspring to be worth more, then to be honest, that would border on fraudulent, wouldn't it ? I do hope that you are going to tell us that you graded him for your own satisfaction and never intend to sell him or breed with him except to keep his stock for yourself.
