The vet is coming in a few hours , just wondering if anyone has had anything similar or has any ideas so I know what to expect ?

my horse had a small cut on the back of her fetlock. It’s healing well , but in the mornings after she’s been in all night her lower leg is swollen, not localised swelling with heat , general cold swelling that isn’t hot or sore to touch. A bit like someone’s filled her leg with water. It mostly goes down when she’s out and then is swollen up again in the morning ?

It’s not really bothering her , she’s sound in walk and slightly lame in trot but I may be imagining it (others have said she’s trotting fine)

from what I’ve read the obvious answer would be cellulitis or an infection but there’s no heat ?

Like I said , the vet is coming soon so I’ll hopefully know ?

Mine just got over a bout of cellulitis but both his hind legs were very hot and swollen from the hock to the fetlock. After a couple of days on antibiotics and plenty of cold hosing the heat went away and after around a week the swelling has gone down. His temp was also up about 1oC at first. He was never particularly lame and was moving around OK considering how big both the legs were.

I have also had one with lymphangitis. That leg was very hot and swollen and the horse was rooted to the spot until he got painkillers.

Yours sounds like it might be something different.
