I am planning to compete more next year, so a newer horsebox was sounding like a good idea. I've never had a 3.5 ton before, so thought I'd have a look at a few to see if I wanted one, rather than a bigger lorry. I only ever travel one horse.

I found Central England Horseboxes website, and there were a couple there which looked nice... so I phoned up, to find out the ones I liked the look of were all sold.

However, Luke said that one had come in on Friday (this was now Monday morning) and it was beautiful, well worth a look. We drove the 2 hours, and wow. Lovely condition, new respray! Renault Master 52 plate, converted about 8 years ago. Obviously really well looked after, loads of service history.

Luke was happy for us to poke about and ask questions, we didn't feel rushed at all, or as if we were being a nuisance!

So oops, we bought it. So much for only going for a look...

Luke spent the next few days MOT'ing it, giving it a service, replacing the very heavy floor mats for much lighter ones, and making sure the tiny sink and gas hob were connected up and working. I phoned a couple of times to check things and ask more questions, and he was always happy to talk to me. Lovely man and nothing was too much trouble.

So - here she is!

Luke had said she is amazing to drive, and he was absolutely right. We sat at 70 on the A5 on the way home, and there was plenty more there. She didn't struggle at all up any of the numerous hills. And in the 2 hours home she hardly used any diesel :)

She's currently parked outside my yard as I had forgotten to trim the hedge by the gate, and I'm scared of marring her beauty, so my next job is to get up there with some loppers to make sure she has safe passage...

And tomorrow we will see what the Hairy Pony thinks!

If you've got this far... If you are looking for a horsebox, do check out Central England Horseboxes. Great service, lovely to deal with, and the box is everything I was told. Be aware though that the smaller boxes don't tend to hang around for long, but if you are looking for something it's definitely worth a phonecall to see what they have :)

Ha ha no Clodagh, but they were so lovely to deal with that I thought they deserved to have the word spread. We hear so much about problems/complaints with companies, and who to avoid, but the good service doesn't get mentioned so much. Just thought it was nice to be able to give a good review of someone, and let people know that there are honest horsebox sellers out there :)

I bought a Horsebox from Central England Horseboxes earlier this year and would also agree they were great. Loads of choice to fit our requirements. Super helpful as well.

When the time comes to get another I'd definitely go back

Thankyou! Have you had any luck with finding something yet?

Not yet - I'm starting to think I should maybe leave it for a while and save up some more money! :) I'm also still torn between a 3.5t for the convenience and a 7.5t for the extra weight etc.. Indecisive? Me? ;)

Lovely box! I just recently got a similar one (although through a private sale) and was delighted by how easy it is to drive compared to my old DAF ifor box. Can't wait to get it back and get Pie out and about (needed a few bits doing so my lorry man has had it for a few weeks).
Hope you have lots of fun with yours!

Very smart little box, hope you enjoy her :) I also agree about Luke, very easy and pleasant to deal with. We went down to CEH to have a look at a 7.5 when we were umming and ahhing about getting a bigger one. In the end we decided to stick with what we have but he happily showed us around, took us for a test drive and wasnt at all pushy or difficult to deal with. I would go back there if ever I want to change as he does have a good, varied selection to look at, all in the one place. And yes, it is nice to be able to post a positive experience.
