My local feed merchant has out the price of Alfalfa chaff from around £12/13 a bag to over £18 a bag in a week!! I know things are going up in price, but all the feed has had a massive hike in price due to managers/ stock buyers or something. I am a little bit pee'd off!

Anyways where can I get alfalfa (pref with oil) however must NOT be smothered in molasses.
I also need oat straw/ oat straw alfalfa blend, which must not contain molasses as it is for the fatties ;)

Where is the cheapest place to buy? I know i will have to factor in postage, but I would like to buy about 10 bags of each.

Thanks :)

I haven't got any from them myself but Halley's in Scotland do on-line chaff and other feeds. If I have another muddle with my supplier about Honeychop, I will give Halley's go.

Thank you! I had heard of them on here before, and thought I must take note of the company, but then never bothered and totally forgot about them! :D

mole valley farmers seem to have a lot to buy online dont know what the prices are like with postage but without are reasonable

Someone in York posted a link on here, I looked it up, as I was so fed up of waiting for Honeychop. I think they were advertising free postage for 2 bags.

If you go to Carrs Billington and buy a pallet (it needs to be loaded onto a trailer on the pallet ie no work for them) they will give you 20 quid off.

Very local to them, I have actually visited the factory before.
It doesn't say what feeds they do, however I might go and visit them tomorrow and see what I can get!

How many blocks do you feed and how long do they last? They look very interesting.

I use the blox as "entertainment" for field kept horses - especially when it's been raining non stop and they seem to crave something crunchy and dry. I use the Big Fibre ones and the timothy ones (though, to be honest, they don't seem to distinguish between them at all!). 3 blox last 3 big horses between 15 mins and half an hour. I think I worked out they cost about 80p per block.

I've read (on here I think) of people sticking one in a bucket, adding water until it broke down, and then letting horse have it along with rationed hay/haylage overnight too. Tbh, if I was doing that, I'd probably just use their chop damped down (I'm sure it would work out cheaper ;)).

I think Halleys should put me on commission :D I do love them, though, because I've been looking for unmollassed, non alfalfa chaff for years, and Halleys deliver so I don't need to drive miles to find a local stockist!
