Would feeding a cheap chaff and adding oil to my horses diet work out the same as feeding a conditioning chaff?? as well as being cheaper for me?!

Wouldn't have thought it would make THAT much difference, cost wise as you would need to use a decent chaff, not just something that is smothered in molasses; then by the time you've bought enough oil to last for the whole bag of chaff and the mess involved too, I personally wouldn't bother, I'd stick to Alfa A Oil myself. It obviously depends on how much you feed anyway and what else you feed too.

Well he doesnt have alot of chaff anyway, and i def wouldnt use a nasty mollassed one! But i guess it would cost just as much as for conditioning chaff as they are only couple of pounds more, hmm i didnt think that one through very well!

To be honest with you, unless you are prepared to feed buckets full at a time it really wont make a great deal of difference to your horses feed(unless crappy quality of course)! The amount we probably feed our horses is probably just enough to stop them bolting their feeds! It only really makes a difference if you are using as a hay replacer???In which case the better the quality the better!!

well, i used to feed healthy hooves to my guys, but became a cheap skate and swapped to mollichaff this winter, there has been no change in there condition at all. Just out of interest, what are you feeding oil for? as Baileys Outshine is a lovely mess free way of feeding it, and although it looks expensive, it works out so much cheaper

Have you tried the Markyate conditioning chaff, its half the price of the Spillers one for me and is very simular other than the markyate one smells sweeter-"cherry flavour"
